This is the second of the two kits I have had in my stash from the range offered by MMP - Modern motive Power,
A David and J Parkins Products.

LMS / BR 12 TON GLASS TRUCK.

I don’t have many build photos of this one, I have a few so if any one is interested I can post them up. Rob, I believe has built one and there are a couple of very good builds on the net.

A very interesting wagon, unusual load, which appealed to me as they were used wherever required by major glass manufacturers.
Life span approx 50 years, LMS built 66 between 1926 - 1947 for the transport of large sheets of glass in wooden crates. BR Swindon built 50 of these wagons between 1955 1961 (‘61 the year I was born !) LMS wagons lasted until late 60’s and BR versions well into the 70’s. LMS had 3 link couplings and BR had Instanter links. All where unfitted, working in general freight trains, usually in pairs or threes.
I decided to build the BR version, there’s only really minor detailing and the couplings that differ.
Note when built it’s very light, so I’ve added lead to the inside of the large wooden case, approx 150g and then centralised this load, which should hopefully allow it to run smoothly when the wheels arrive from Slaters (am I the only one not in the uk suffering from not been able to get parts / spares)

so until the wheels arrive I can’t do much more with this build. Brakes and w irons still to fit along with the axle box’s.
I’ve managed , like Rob to make the load clamps work, changing the white metal parts over to a brass threaded rod and a washer and some copper tubing. The leaf spring suspension also works, hopefully the lead will make it spring on the track.

like the brick hods kit from MMP that I’m also building, this has a lot of parts, very detailed and has been a real challenge to solder up (enjoyable at times)

    Kim

A very different build. Looks complex but a great finished product.

I can see the appeal it being a very different looking wagon

Very nice build, and will have an unusual contrast of a weatherd wagon, with fresh wood for the crate, as that would unlikely ever be returned to back to the factory.

Cheers Toto, it will be nice to finish this one off, there’s some very tricky soldering on this one, I’m glad I didn’t try building a couple of years ago when I bought it.

Cheers Paul, yes I agree. I’m not going to mad with the Weathering on this one, just a bit to knock the “shine” off it

I'll take that as a warning Kimbo .... :avatar: I'll stay well clear .... for now anyway. I do have a couple of their wagons and fine detail parts seems to be part of their DNA.

Nice to have .... but at the right time of your building career. :avatar:

    Thanks for posting up.

A very nice looking addition to the fleet Kimbo :tophat::tophat:.
Sorry to hear you're having problems with getting the wheels etc from Slaters, I imagine they are quite busy with orders at the mo' plus the contagion is slowing lots of overseas orders down, I've been waiting for weeks for some tools and clothing from the 'states, fingers crossed I've not been scammed :twitch:

Well looking at your 4F build I recon you could easily do one of their kits Toto.

‘thanks Pete, well a nice parcel arrived on Thursday, Slaters wheels, plastic struts and some brickwork sheets for Pauls TMD build.
So after a few weeks wait I can finally put this one into active duties.
I’ve only given this one a quick flick with the spray gun just to take the clean edge off it.

    Time for anew challenge build......:scratchchin:
