I've recently built a number of both Parkside and Slaters wagon kits, they go together easily though as pointed out, some brake gear can be a bit complicated. A point to bear in mind is that whilst Parkside kits come with decals, not all of the Slaters ones do, so there's extra expense involved. I've found that with Slaters kits like the 'BY' van and bogie brake coach, these oddly don't come with couplings, and the etched bogie version of the bogie brake coach is (as mentioned by Rob Pulham) an exercise of 'Origami in brass!' Certainly the plastic bogie version would be far easier.

I use my wagons on the layout, but they are there to be displayed as well. It's like anything in this fickle hobby, do a good job and it rewards you well ! I could have given up and not added all the detail, but I didn't want it to beat me, or brake me for that matter !!

I was asked about the wagons at an exhibition back in 2018, where I could show the work that goes into producing a good model. As York Paul stated, these models offer all the details that the smaller scales don't, so why not fit it all !!

    Cheers, Gary.

The trouble with the brake van I built was the instructions for the linkages. Attach one end of the rod to the lark bracket ensuring the whelk blocks are correctly located next to the bilge clamps etc. if you see what I mean. Assumed those building it had a deep knowledge of the braking system.

Do Dapol do a brake van that would accompany this banana van of the same era.

If you have gone for the terrier, I believe one of the brake vans they do is also of an SR region design, so yes.
    Although I prefer LMS!

Ah the more detail gambit :whatever:

I remember when I first started in O gauge, I thought everything is bigger so will be easier to see, nah it just means they can fit even more fiddly parts :avatar:

I enjoy building stuff, so having something to operate wasn't a high priority, until ...... nah not covid something far more serious I got hit with early retirement

Now if I'm gonna build it, I'm going to need to see it run, now I've probably got over 30 years worth of purchases that will get built someday, damn someday has just got real close :scratchchin: :whatever: :avatar: :avatar:

As for detail, I suppose i'm easy ozy, if it can be seen or if a kit supplies it I will try and fit it, I certainly wont throw the bits away (SWMBO will testify I don't throw anything away), as one day I may know how to finish it properly, until then I will live with it

    Paul
