What has this got to do with anything? A couple of weeks ago I went to the Elizabethan MRC's exhibition and while there I found a book for sale very cheaply on the historical model railway societys stand called Oil on the Rails for £2. Inside I found a photo and 4mm scale drawing for a bogie rail tanker. Anyway I showed the book to a friend who makes fantastic 7mm scale loco models from card and he told me he had made some rail tanks from card with the base from drinks cans for the ends. So after some measuring it was found the diameter of the tank in the drawing was to all intents the same as the cans base, so after scrounging up a couple of cans I removed the base's with my Dremel. Here is the photo and drawing. And here is the start of the project, the body of the tank is made from rolled card with the ends Araldited in place. The tank on the prototype is made of rolled sections riveted overlapping each other, I will make mine with overlapping card which hopefully will make it stronger! One thing I thought after fitting the ends was, I should have stuck some weight inside first! If all goes to plan I will remember for next time. Cheers, Pete.
Snap Pete, Here's one I did earlier, I really must get it finished.... I have since thought that the slimmer cans that drinks such as Red Bull comes in would be useful for smaller diameter tanks. I would have tried them but being diabetic I would probably keel over from the sugar content...
Very interesting project Pete. Look forward to seeing this progress as there’s a few Guinness cans in the recycle bin.
