Hello everyone from Sydney, Australia. [IMG]

First post from a new member.

Started in HO gauge with Lima over 40 years ago.

Moved to N gauge 20 years ago.

Have been building a layout called Gresleys Run in N gauge (DC control) over the last 7 years. It is designed to show express engines with a rake of carriages running.

Problem has been that it is more fun running the trains than modelling so nearly every work session gets hijacked into operating time. That of course is not a bad thing in itself. It just slows down getting anything done.

Layout is a dog bone shape folded so that the boards form a large "U" shape. Plan is a double track line running from a 6 platform main station with a locomotive servicing shed and goods yard on one side, around the "U" to a junction station on the other. A branch line from the junction will run back down one side of the "U" to a dairy, coal mine and branch station.

Mainline has a 15 metre run length all double track and the branch is about 7 metres long.

Aim is for A. interesting operating sessions and B. a layout that can convert easily to "tail chasing" (for when I want to sit with a coffee and simply watch the engines run past).

The handle "chiefnerd" was bestowed by a work customer 20 years ago. I work in electronics repair leading a group of technical staff.

    Thanks for having me.

    Andrew

Great intro Andrew and as you already know, some of us know who you are from previous forums. When you get a chance start a layout topic in the Members Personal Layouts under the Model Railway Layouts section, further down the front page. We here all love photos as they speak a thousand words. Looking forward to seeing you layout in the future.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the intro. Sounds like a fair size layout you have there. Any chance of a photo or two ?

I know the problem with the speed of progress thing. Still, nobody said it was a race ......... Thankfully.:avatar:

A pleasure having you onboard Sir.

Looking forward to seeing your handy work as we share the journey.

    Cheers

    Toto

    Hi Andrew

Welcome again to the forum, as Gary and Toto have said we love photo's here, and it's surprising how much posting on your layout thread can spur on that work session :whatever:.

I'm envious of the ability for continuous running, as I quite like sitting back and watching the trains go by. I grew up in Blythe Bridge on the Crewe / Derby line, so used to see various experimental locomotives being moved between workshops as well as the usual DMU's.

Looking forward to learning more about Gresley's Run

    Paul

Hi Andrew and :welcome: to Platform1 that's a great intro and we look forward to some pics. I'm envious of the train running but just mentioning it can spur others on cheer
