Well scottystitch!!!, One thing I can personally guarantee about this forum is that it is friendly..... We are a varied bunch who seem to delve into friendly banter quite a lot and occasionally we even discuss model trains.!!!! You are most welcome to join in here and I am absolutely confident that any of our members would agree with that !!! http://www.clickGormo.....where did I put my Brandy???......ah!!! there it is next to the Tinto!!
Mmmmm yes please ..... Or Martell. I'm adaptable. I wouldn't let the other forum put you off any. Not such a great experience however, we shall endeavour to correct that. Your Glasgow North sounds exciting. How far on are you with the build ? Or are you starting with a fresh pallete ? There will be a few champing at the bit to see this progress. Myself included. Cheers for now Toto
Thank you both for the welcome. Currently the project is paper based (and expensive model buying based). The architect is currently submitting plans to the council for a building warrant to allow me to remove the garage up-and-over door and replace with a wall/window affair. Being an ex-show house, the builders used the garage as an office, with the result that it was plasterboarded/insulated/lit/heated from the start. All that's left is the aforementioned garage door to replace. I am hoping that by the autumn I can be ready to start installing boards. I have most/much of the track required and I've bitten well into the motive power roster (but you always need more, right?) I have enough freight stock to assemble a number of block freight trains and mixed goods services, and I'm waiting on the excellent Revolution Class B heavy oil tankers which should more or less complete the freight side of things. I was one of the original promoters of the Class B wagon to persuade Revolution to take it on, so I am especially looking forward to receiving them. I am currently in the process of trawling through Passenger Train Marshalling documents and photographs to try and assemble reasonably accurate train formations. That said, I am not anal about accuracy, my tenet is to produce a flavour of the period. However, I'd really like to get the Glasgow/Aberdeen services as close as possible.
Looking forward to it commencing. You could alway upload some pictures of your current stock if you like. We have a forum section for all the main manufacturers and the lesser known. We like a good picture show here.
Sounds like you`re going to have quite a railway empire Scottystitch, And the room you have for it will be ideal. As Toto says.....post up some photos of your rolling stock. Members are always interested to see such things. http://www.clickGormo
Don't encourage Toto with comments like "you can never have enough Loco's", manufacturers are making investment plans based on Toto's loco buying habits - as soon as he showed an interest in O gauge, Dapol released O gauge loco's, then when he looked a GWR loco they bought out Lionheart models Luckily Toto's hide is getting quite thick - he needs it, as you may have noticed, we enjoy the banter as much as the modelling, so jump in and welcome to the madhouse. Paul
Hi everyone, Dan here. I found the forum through an invite by Gary, who in turn found me on Facebook after recognising my layout posts on another forum. I've only just had the time to sign up, and I've come straight here to say hello, so I'm looking forward to going through all the posts I've got to catch up on! Regarding what I like to see from posters most - well... everything really. I love seeing photographs of nice layouts and models, but who doesn't, right? At the moment I'm working on a round-the-walls USA based layout in HO scale, in a room 10'x9'. I'll add a progress thread in the relevant forum section as soon as I get the time. Hopefully that's enough information from me and I've not bored you all too much! Cheers, Dan
Hey that was quick ...... sounds a bit like most of us ........ an interesting layout plan and as many loco photos you can muster. again, welcome aboard and I look forward to finding out more about your layout plans cheers Toto
Hi all, I model in HO and 00, operating with Lenz DCC all my locos are fitted with sound all fitted by myself. I have converted Lima locos with spares found from Hornby stores, ie replacing running gear and some with new chassis. I am a member of a local model railway club.I am also interested in fishing. These are hobbies I took up after I suffered a heart attack in June 1996 I have a running layout in my shed I also have four exhibition layouts stored under the main layout in the shed Railman43
Hi Railman43, great intro. Sounds like you have been a busy man. Another shed dweller like myself. It would be great to see a few pictures of your exhibition layouts. We are always hungry to see others work on here. i think there are a few other Lenz operators on the forum. that and a good mix of NCE as well. Sorry to hear of the heart attack. maybe need to just slow down a tad. Thanks for taking the time to post up your intro. We'll look forward to learning more about your layouts and hopefully adding your tuppence worth on the threads of others Cheers for now toto
Hi i'm Jimmy i have been modelling railways for a long long time, i'm 34 married with two young children so obviously i model on a budget. my passion is LMS and over the years i have started a number of LMS layouts but never actually finished any of them. so this is how my operation abyss was born. i was determined to finish a layout and get it in a mag and to a exhibition. but wanted something mad and different. i have achieved all my goals. i like to scratch build and always happy to help with any questions, take and recieve advice. i was invited to join this forum as some of the guys here knew me from another forum. i must say i'm very happy here with my new family. Jimmy
Fantastic Jimmy. I had the pleasure of watching operation abyss taking shape and I'm looking forward to your next creation. Great modelling. Cheers Toto
Hello, My name is Tony and I'm getting back into model trains again after a very long break. I now have a very active 5 year old boy who loves trains, he loves exhibitions and layouts, so I thought I would repeat this at home. I am currently reviving my childhood layout for him, and this is what I'm using to practice my skills in model-making. I like building things, so kits are a very important part of this for me. It's very satisfying to see that my skill level in building these things has jumped a huge amount after a considerable lay-off from this sort of activity. I have started with and still have lots of Hornby stuff. My interest is still with this, but I have always liked Australian stuff, and now it is available and mostly affordable, so am moving into that as well. There is also a bit of American thrown in there as well. Repairing things has long been a hobby, and before becoming a surveyor I was repairing all sorts of power tools, repairing motors in trains is quite enjoyable, and I really get a kick out of repairing the "un-repairable" I intend to have a number of layouts in due course. Once I get some decks cleared here from other projects I intend building a decent U-Drive layout to maybe take to exhibitions, but more to take to other events, like market days, fetes and community events to get the hobby towards kids that otherwise mightn't get to a full on exhibition. I am also a bit dismayed at some of the U-Drive layouts, they seem to have cast off scenery and worn out locos and rolling stock, the track work on some often leaves very disappointed kids and the parents need something to look at.
Welcome to the forum, like yourself I took an extended sabbatical from railway modelling, as the kids hobbies took precedence - they've now left home so it's my turn (2nd childhood maybe). I look forward to seeing your layout on the forum. Paul
Hi Dr Tony, A great intro. Looks like your circumstances match a great number of our members in that we are all born again engine drivers. Great to see the young chap getting involved. Tomorrows modellers. We have a few members on here who love the challenge of bringing some of the less looked after stuff back to life and why not. There are some great subjects to be had for a small price tag. A hobby in itself. I look forward to following your projects as they appear. However, until you get your feet under the table, I hope you enjoy sharing in the fun that we generate here on Pkatform1 Again, a very warm Toto
