I believe that these types of carriages were sold off to a second life transporting miners to the pit. So ..... mine will be pretty worn out and well used looking.
    cheers

I invested in another two of these carriage kits and a BR brake van. I'll post up some piccies of the brake van kit under its own thread later.

I think you will enjoy building these coach kits, if they are anything like his other kits they should go together easily and are a great introduction to etched brass kit building!

Have fun with them mate, cheers, Pete.

    Hi Pete, cheers.

A question. When bending along the etches, do you bend the etches in towards the etch ( which is my thought ) or keeping the etch to the outside.

If I'm right, it's inwards and you generally strengthen the fold with a thin fillet of solder along its length.

I will be using bending bars when I do the kits.

Yes Toto, the etched line is to help form a bend, (some times if a curved bend is required, there may be several etched lines close together) running a bead of solder along the bend will give it more strength, Jim will usually advise whether or not in the instructions. Along the edge of the etches there is usually a small cusp of metal that you need to remove with a file, be careful not to remove the locating tabs that stick out from the edge as these locate in slots in adjoining parts, clean all the surfaces before soldering, and clean them with kitchen cleaner (Cif or similar) and rinse with warm water, if you leave it, the flux will go green and it will be a :bleep6: to get clean or get paint to stick, you will soon get the hang of it, and in no time you will be building locos, remember, its supposed be fun, if you get a problem, don't get flustered, leave it and go back later, ask lots of questions.

    Cheers, Pete.

Now there's a surprise, mind you the only daft question is the one that doesn't get asked, unless Toto didn't read the instructions, then we all get a good giggle
