At first did the pelmet with 3mm MDF, looked good Friday evening,But Saturday morning too many S bends, "not a happy chappy" made me feel like a:headbanger: :avatar:
must be too much vairiation in moisture/temperature, hoping 6mm holds up.http://www.clickRALPH

    G`day Ralph,

Just out of curiosity......what size was your 3mm MDF pelmet.????

I am considering using some myself as a pelmet but it sounds like if there is too much of it exposed and not braced, it may get the wobblys when the moisture content in the air varies.????

I have some hanging below my baseboards at the moment.....probably about 75mm hanging free and as yet no S bends.

So with your information I may be able to work out it`s limitations, or indeed not bother and go for ply.

    Thanks

Pity about the 3mm MDF getting the wobbles Ralph. The 6mm ply, being stronger should hold up much better.

Gormo, I have used 3mm MDF for the backscene and end walls on my Townstreet plank layout. Ok, it's only 4' long, but it is 11.5" deep and no problems with it at all. Your 3" deep lengths should be an issue at all.

    Cheers, Gary.

    OK....got it...

    Thanks Ralph and Gary.

I was thinking of pelmets to cover the lighting in the room and although not measured up properly yet, I imagined maybe 40mm frame work and maybe 150mm hanging down free.???

Testing will be the order of the day methinks even though Gary has had no issues.???
