Hi everyone! Well, it's about time I started sharing some pics of my layouts and first cab off the rank is my OO Inglenook. Some of you may have seen this on another forum. It is a standard inglenook plan will an extra track added that the back with a rail bus shuttling back and forth at regular intervals. I started out using tension lock couplers with Hornby powered uncoupling ramps but I have now converted to kadee's. I have used kadee surface mount magnets and disguised them in the road crossings and weigh bridge. The loco's still have their tension locks so I can use them with ready to run stock when visiting others layouts so I use shunters wagons and brake vans fitted with one tension lock and one kadee as 'match trucks'. There is a little more scenic work to do but, other than that, the layout is almost as finished as a layout ever can be (I think we always keep tweeking little bits and pieces over time). I hope you all like the pics and I'll share some more up to date ones soon. Feel free to ask me about anything you would like to know. Ian

    Hi Ian,

Some great scenes there. I like your road vehicles as well. Scammed Scarab, ford popular and a few others.

    Very nicely done.

Is your warehouse a Walthers kit ? Looks familiar.

    Cheers

    Toto

    Hi Chris,

It's always good when members can hook up together for a running session. I get Matt now and again although it usually ends up with him having to roll up his sleeves and work. :avatar:

Matt and i have also been known to visit Paul in Dundee where we have enjoyed some time on his layout Victoria a Road.

    All great fun.

    Cheers

    Toto

Ian, a couple of questions if I may.
1). What is the width and length of your baseboards?

2). Could you put up a track plan please.

My own plank is waiting some inspiration at the moment and is 4ft. x 1ft. which can be extended to 5ft or so with a second board of 3ft 6in x 1ft, most of which is for the fiddle yard.

Your loco's do they have NEM pockets, if so you could swap the coupling on the loco between Kadde and tension lock within seconds, or have a tension lock at one end and a Kadee at the other.

    Thanks for the comments guys.
Toto - yes it is a walthers kit - I think it was an office kit originally.
Paul - some have nem pockets but I like having a reason to run my brake vans etc
60019Bittern - it is 135cm x 40cm. I could have made it a bit smaller but I think the little bit extra space works nicely. Track plan attached as requested.

A photo from the last opperating session on Ian's Inglenook sidings
[IMG]Ian's inglenook sidings by CHRIS, on Flickr

You can time how long you have taken to solve the puzzle by counting how many times the rail bus goes back and forth as is on a auto timer every 2 minutes from memory. The passanger service is as regular as clock work.:avatar:

That's a lovely looking Inglenook Ian. I like the Automated rail bus Idea .and the whole thing must give you hours of fun shunting. Do you exhibit it ? It looks well up to standard ! Looking forward to more

Thanks mate. I think with a bit of jiggling I might be able to get it into 30cm. Might need to loose one of the sidings.

    Hi Mick
The 1foot/ 30cm should get you all three of the nook sidings
Ian's layout has a fair amount of space to the rear of the sidings for the passanger line to go through
If you are going to be running a puzzle style shunt the 3rd siding is a "must have" it just doesn't work with 2.

If you just want to shuffle some wagons 2 sidings is ok but 3 really does make the play value go up intensely a forth siding just makes it all to easy with the puzzle style unless the head shunt is really short or the forth siding is planed as being the space for the complete train to go arrival / departure siding and you leave a brake van in it and use the other three as per the inglenook puzzle rules.

Good luck with your build, please post it up for P1 members to follow
Please don't put it off for to long I find if you over plan/analyse you will never start and you have lost the fun before it could begin.

Thanks Matt and Gormo. It has never been to an exhibition but if I keep hanging around with Chris it more than likely will make an appearance at some point in time.

Ian your inglenook would get a lot of interest at any model railway show if you decide to exhibit it one day.

It would get a lot of fence sitters to start building a model railway
I think a lot of people go to exhibitions in Australia and see all the great big layouts and get intimidated thinking they are the normal standard when they are far from it most home layouts are quite modest a fares.

So which exhibition is going to be your first ??:avatar:

Just been getting my self re-aquainted with some of the layouts, and although I know its an inglenook, it doesn't look like one. Th extra line and depth fool the eye into thinking I'm looking at a much larger more complicated layout - weldone.

Thank you Paul. I have a few small projects waiting to be done on this layout but they have been put on the back burner while I get the HO Exhibition layout to a basic operational stage. Hopefully this will only take another week or so then I can get back to operating some trains.

Is that railbus a motorised dapol kit? I'm thinking of doing something similar myself.

Hi Ian may have missed this as the P1 site has been unavailable Down Under for a while today

I believe it is the Heljan rail Bus.
I runs very nicely on Ian's little layout and shuttles back and forth on a timer you can tell how long you have taken to solve the inglenook puzzle by how manny time the rail bus has run

    Hi Nerd4,

Chris is correct - it is the Heljan Railbus. It is an amazing little runner - ultra slow speed straight to of the box. It is a bit tricky to open though - it took a lot of fiddling to get it apart to install the passengers. Now that I've gone DCC I'm thinking of opening it again to install a chip so I can run it on my other layouts.
