Hi guys, this is the new plan for my layout, each sheet is 4 foot long x approx 3 feet wide. The colour code is as followsGreen = Heritage LinePink = Main Up LineOrange = Main down LinePurple = Freight Line Pink, Orange, Purple, will be DCC.Green will be DC Blue indicates station platforms
Hi Dave, Good looking plan, plenty of operational potential. A couple of things to re look at. 1) You have listed double slips on two plans, 1a and 2 , but as drawn they look more like a diamond crossing which uses four points and a fixed cross over in the centre (2x l/h and 2 x r/h plus a cross over) ? 2) plan 4. Again I think should be 3 x r/h and 1 x l/ h 3) plan 5, Ash pit side needs to be a l/h point and the bottom coach siding has a r/h point drawn but I don't think you need one there...unless you are going to add a further siding. Looking forward to following your progress Kim
Hi Kim, thanks for the feed back mate, not sure about more sidings just yet, i want to get the base boards down and up, then i can see how much space on top have. You are right about plan 4, silly me Plan 5 might put in another siding for the coaches. I did not know how to draw double slips on the plan, so i just did them to look like diamond crossovers.
Just wondering what radius the curves are Dave. Have you tried out any of the track planning software available, such as Anyrail or Scarm. Ed
Hi Ed & Ron, First off, I have a chromebook and can't use track planning software on it ( not windows compatible ) On the curves thinking about using Peco flexitrack for a smooth curve
Wow Dave, that's some plan. It'll take a while to get that down onto baseboards. Do you have the boards to get started or have you still to get them yet ?
But what's the radius Dave, not sure what each square on the graph paper represents. You really need to go no lower that 2nd radius curves for the inner most curves (about 17"). Ed
Hi Toto, starting from the very being again. Hi Ed, nor do i mate, just had some graph paper and started to plan it. 2nd radius might be the way to go, i have a lot of track from my old layout, i dismantled, i'm off to Daventry Thursday lunchtime to pick up a load more. So with a bit of luck, i might have some 2nd radius curves in the job lot. If i get a shift on, i can have the baseboards built within a week, Toto.My great nephew is an electrician, guess what job he will be doing lol
I don't envy him the task. There is a lot of wiring to be done to get that lot running. It'll be fun operating that. You'll need a masters degree to get your head around it. good luck and keep us posted on the progress. Don't forget the pictures. Cheers Toto
Cheers Toto, all starts in about a month (hopefully) I will help him, might let him operate it as well lol
Doesn't matter if you use flexitrack or setrack curves Dave, but too get three parallel line around a 90[sup]0 [/sup]bend you need a 2nd radius, then a 3rd radius and an outside 4th radius. You will need a piece of base board at least two feet x two feet (610mm x 610mm) to get round. Ed
Each section of paper represents 4 foot, so i don't think there will be any problems. If there is, i can make the width larger.
Hi guys, had a nice little run down to Daventry at lunch time to pick up some track from a nice bloke named Robin. Got loads of it, not ballasted, got loads of insulfrog points, already wired up for DCC. He also has a load of seep point motors, already wired up. Told him to save them for me, at a £1.00 each, silly not to have them.
Yep very please with it all, he even found me 3 lenghts of flexitrack. He ha sgone up to O gauge, runs it off an Ecos system, showed me how easy it was to do track plans on it, add loco's, control points etc.
How come I'm never about when these deals are on the go. I must be missing something. A good money saver on the seeps as well. Well done Sir. Toto
