There is an currently an unprecedented array of reasonably priced RTR UK prototype O gauge rolling stock either here now or on the way. I have been tempted and now need a suitable layout. This layout could be incorporated into a larger scheme and I would like it to be poratble so that it could be exhibited. I have two 4 x 2 foot baseboards plus a 5 x 2 foot fiddle yard that I built several years ago to try some new ideas. The boards are 6mm marine ply sides and 12 mm marine ply ends. The baseboard top is a sandwich of 50mm foam insulation from Bunnings covered top and bottom with 3mm marine ply. Baseboard with ply top. Baseboard on side. I also have a bit of Peco Code 124 bullhead track and points that I will use rather than hand-building the track. The track plan has been drawn in Anyrail. It will be viewed and operated from the top. The layout incorporates an inglenook in the front 3 right hand sidings. The design train is a Small Prairie plus 5 x 10 foot wheelbase wagons and a brake van. Cheers, Rob
Hi Rob nice plan really makes the most of the space I like that the inglenook can be used independant of the platform and the station approach. So you can have a passenger shuttle in and out whilst someone else is unlocking the inglenook puzzle. Nice start to your build topic
Hi Rob Well you left Toto gob smacked when he saw how much trackwork you managed to squeeze in to such a small area. Nice one. Is the crossover a crossover / single or double slip ? Paul
Gents, Sorry for the delayed replies, I have been away working on the 1:1 railway. Chris, Exactly. I was thinking of using a MERG shuttle on the two platforms and fiddle yard while shunting. Mark, There is a lot of track! I envisage this as an small single track urban terminus surround be retaining walls, a bit like the original Minories. It is tight but it looks like it will work. Saying that I would build the scenic section of the layout approx 300mm if starting from scratch. The crossover at the yard throat is a double slip. Cheers, Rob
Will be watching this build with interest. Plenty of operational interest with the inglenook and entrance to station and back into goods shed (?). Cheers, Gary.
Gary, The building on the front right hand side will be a warehouse / goods shed. I intend to model it with the doors closed as an excuse for why the 3 wagon sidings are so short. I am still deciding what the industry at the rear left will be. Possibly a diary or another warehouse or bonded store. It will depend on the location and backstory. At this stage I was contemplating Cardiff or Bristol. Maybe an imaginary station near Portishead could just frequent autocoaches into Bristol? Cheers, Rob

Looking forward to seeing this develop, as a Bristol boy myself I am just about old enough to remember steam locos in use at Temple Meads!
Thanks all for the encouragement. Real life has got in the way of modelling however I have done some experiments with Alex Jackson couplings and homemade electromagnets. I will post details when I'm done. Rob
Nice to hear from you Rob One of the best things about his hobby is when life gets in the way nothing changes and you can basicly just pick up where you left off. Looking forward to the couplings experiments
Hi Rob A very oppertune experiment your carrying out, as Toto and I are having to consider couplings, and uncoupling methods before the ballasting starts for Toto, and track laying for me. Popcorn at the ready - no pressure Paul
