Looks the part. Loads of potential for running on it. A decent length as well. How long has it taken you so far ? Toto
Hello Ron thanks for the congrats ! can you tell me which version of kadees you recommend.I will post a pic showing the offending USA wagons that wont connect.the loco and the wagons are all bachmann but the wagons i picked up for a song second hand at a stall at GCR MODEL RAIL EVENT IN 2015. i,ve just had a look and and a fiddle. and they are now connecting. strange. but only on the table i e not constrained by the track ... Hi Toto. I think I started getting the wood in May. I did keep some of the Base boards from first layout and so the first half was salvaged - the left side with the bridges and house and garden. But after hacking it down and adding on the second section then re grassing the embankment it started to come back to life. I had to keep the first section and re-work it because the two arched road bridges don't come with the adjoining side section's. I had to make casts of the rear of the bridge... pictures required here I think .... will go and take some. In a min . So anyway it was all kinda built in to the embankments both left and right sides. I should say that it's still a bit rough and I need to work it further. There's a few battle scars to cover up. The section showing damage revealing white plaster was cast from the parts opposite the stair case gateway. Here's the picture. I had to take photo blind so bear with. ... err turned out better than when I can actually see through the view finder. What does that tell yer! So...... this picture shows the bit of wall I cast from to make the bit of wall that's now broken.... again I reckon some more improvement required.
I use Kadee No 148's they are the same as No 5 but have 'whiskers' that keep them centred. I use the original box on the wagon. Cheers Ron
Cheers Gormo. Don't forget this is just one section of what will be a bigger layout.I got the Railway Children Set by Bachmann...So there will be an animated embankment section, with the trees "walking down the slope" tipping over at knuckle joints and falling across the track. I bet you've never seen the film have you out in the outback.? Anyway it's a British classic. Made in 1970. Then there's the "Daddy my Daddy scene where the Father emerges from the steam cloud at the end of the platform. I want to place a smoke gen under the track and have a trap door on the platform to reveal the Daddy. Then when I've stopped crying...
Thanks Ron. I will get a pack of 148.'s I've just been having a play around with it. The knuckles will come together but they end up offset and it tends to derail over a point due to the side pushing force. Cheers mate. BTW I had look at your photo's there some pretty impressive stuff on there including the astromonical pics.Nice one. I see you are no stranger to the GCR as well .
I tend to buy the bulk packs of No.5's, draft boxes and springs, I was also lucky to pickup some Bachmann ezmate couplings when Hattons had them on clearance (a 12 pack for £2), the Mk2 version are better, the Mk1's can break on long / heavy trains. There's a thread on conversions Kadee conversions Paul
Hi Paul. Thanks mate. It's all very informative. The video does move on a bit quick but I found it followable because I think we scan and pick out the bits we are looking for. So very useful. Thanks I had a notion of drilling down between the sleepers left and right and getting some of those small dia 3 or 4mm rod type magnets . Probably a bank of 3 each side. As I'm guilty of failing to plan for this and the track is laid now. In future as the other modules are made up I will place the slim 2mm magnets under the sleepers. - with a chiseled out recess. I had a fiddle yesterday with these old Bachmann USA wagons. It didn't have a draft box just a flimsy screw about 1.5 mm diameter with a large washer covering the rim of the taped hole. I was gonna cheat and put the front couper off the Alco Loco onto the wagon. Just to see how it all goes. But the mounting screw hole was much bigger than the raised journal.on the wagon. Fair bit of piston slap ! Gotta go now. Duty calls . Thanks again My way.
G`day My Way I Did It, Yes I have seen the film and I have been on the railway and I bought a new copy of the film at the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth as part of our day riding the KWVR in West Yorkshire in 2013. I also have the re-mastered and restored version of The Titfield Thunderbolt on BluRay, which is another must have for British railway fans. So it`s not as wild here in the outback of Oz as you may think....or is it????.... http://www.clickGormo
Fair play to you Gormo. I wasn't sure if you knew where I was coming from with my ramblings. Cheers My Way
G'day 'My way I did it' for best steam/smoke effects use the Toto method; a. Turn on power b. Drill through anything live c. Use extinguisher d. Put in little people Ian vt
what page can I read all about that on? (I'm afraid I've lost one or two decoders along the way - didn't even need a drill to free the Magic Dragon). So I will just have a muffled titter. Cheers mate My Way.
G`day My Way, Oh yes I`m with it on here, ......these guys ramble all the time....you kind of get used to it. I`ve been known to ramble on and waffle on extensively myself. Welcome to the nut house..!!!... http://www.clickGormo
