After the major clear up this week I found an old Springside Models Peckett, that I started to restore many moons ago, and then when Minerva Models announced a RTR model was due out within months, I lost interest in it. Well it needs completing now to make some space in the "stock cupboard".
When I purchased it from ebay it was sold as a runner but missing several parts, it was cheap enough to have a go at so I contacted Springside models and they sent all the missing parts. On closer examination of the model I found that it had been assembled with evo stick..and pieces were starting to fall off it with handling, so I decided to strip it down to its individual parts and rebuild it from scratch, probably would have been better buying a new kit as there was a lot of cleaning up to do.
No build pictures but the chassis was completed, test run and then stripped for painting...at which point it was put in its box and left....until today. As I was completing the Hymek chassis I thought it a good idea to paint up the Peckett chassis at the same time. So this is where the model was this morning before the etching primer and black matt paint went on.

Once the paint has dried i'll take more pictures and start the reassembly.

Hi Kim, I will watch with interest on the rebuild as I have one in the "to do cupboard". Will you solder or glue it back together? The chassis is the part I always build first, on this kit it is a milled brass rather than etched, a much more rigid construction.

    Cheer's, Pete.

Gary, band aids are strictly Mr Power's area of expertise :avatar:
I agree, it's always nice to put a sad old model back into roster.

The kit is quite an easy build other than the fact it's a white metal body, which I know some modellers are afraid to solder, but with low melt solder and a descent soldering iron it's not to hard to learn.
As Pete has pointed out, the chassis is bullet proof, very solid and basically screws together, making it an ideal beginners kit to build.
Pete, where possible I always try and solder, leaving just the very small white metal bits for the adhesives. I've resently been using J.B.Weld from Jaycar, here in WA. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/J-B_Weld
Sets like rock and can be filed and sanded. Thanks "kentishlad" for the tip.

Thanks for the tip Kim, its widely available here too. I'm going to solder mine for the bigger lumps and glue the smaller parts.

    Cheer's, Pete.

Hi Kim, I couldn't resist fetching my kit out. When it arrived, I went through the parts and I thought I had identified which parts were missing and ordered them. Been looking at it today and realised more bits are missing than I first thought. The brass lost wax castings aren't there, nor the 6ba screws and nuts to hold the chassis together, the latter aren't a problem as I have spares but I can't believe I missed the castings .
Anyway, the main reason for writing is to ask, were the axle bearings not soldered in on yours? the destructions are vague to say the least!
I've been examining the whitemetal castings more closely too, there are a lot of release agent pittings on all the big castings, hopefully, I can fill the deepest with knifing putty, and the rest will fill with the primer.
I'm also looking to fit DCC and sound, the body looks to have enough room inside. I may leave the smokebox door loose, use a magnet to hold it in place for access.

    Enough waffelling, cheer's, Pete.

Well finally after many attempts to get this “little” project finished I’ve put a tick in the done box.
I ended up buying a new set of wheels for this model as one had a broken spoke, so this week I concentrated on getting all the missing bits fitted, tested the chassis, found a faulty pickup, luckily I had a replacement, assembled the model, tested again on DC and all good. Then into the paint shop for weathering and detailing.
While this was happening I also managed to get the Minerva model weathered and detailed at the same time, so two models completed.
