just ordered a class 24 from Steve Beatty models. I have sold my big Rail King beasty thing so the funds will cover this. I'll post up when it arrives. cheers Toto
need to get my ears checked, I could have sworn I heard someone say I won't be buying any more loco's for a while as I have nowhere to put them and plenty of kits to build - maybe it was another life
Very nice Chris, I think mine has the brass body though. The one piece resin will take a lot of work out of the equation. . Toto
and its the pictures ...... straight from the box ....... and even that is a solid sturdy piece. On to the DVD instruction manual ........ and then the business bit ..... the main body shell ........ now ...... isn't it a thing of beauty. Now stare long and hard as you may never see it resemble this shape again. next up some chassis and bogie etching sprues ........ and more ......... and more ....... and more .......... some more .......... did I say there was more ? ........... well ..... there is ........ and here they are ........ followed by some white metal bits and also some plastic / resin parts ..... and again ....... its never ending . A load of bits and I dont have a scooby what half of them are. Better look at the instructions then. cheers for now, toto.
I like the idea of instructions on a CD, makes more sense than crusty yellowing bits of A4. All you need now is a bit of soldering practice and you're away! I did see on the latest issue of the MERG quarterly mag that one of the Scottish groups (I think) had run a successful soldering course (Paul may have seen it too) but I imagine it would have been electronics soldering rather than what you were looking for, Toto, but having said that, the principle is the same really, just on a bigger scale. Keith.
That's a much later and updated kit to my one looks like you will be soldering way for a while with this one. I'll just get the file out clean up a few bits pre drill for the add on bits and prime the body, paint blue all done not quite that easy
That looks a very comprehensive kit Toto, I wouldn't start on it until you've cut your teeth on a couple of Big Jims loco kits mate, but it will make a very interesting build demo. Pete.
Hi Pete, No worries, I'm not that brave. I have been doing a little delving into Delrin drive systems. Any experience of these ? I've seen them used on a number of O Gauge loco's and wondering what the pros and cons are over normal drive systems. Cheers Toto
The Delrin drive system makes a very cost effective solution to all axle drive, you only need one worm and gear for each bogie. Pete.
They are very nice kits. Not as a first project but with a bit soldering experience I think it would be a great kit to watch come together. Loads of fine detail but if done right, could stand up to a bit of handling. Toto
Toto wrote: So which 24 had you in mind to model? I have a side view photo somewhere of D5054 I took from the ballast shoulder... I think the loco was still in green it was when I'd just started on the railway in the early 70's. The driver was Stoke man Arthur Pepper and we had stopped just outside of Endon because of animals on the line, the consist was loaded sand from Oakamoor and I think we had about 40 wagons on for Pickingtons and Atlas Glass. Not bad going for a single 1160 hp machine and only a partially fitted train too. Great days they were and sadly all traffic now gone although I believe 5054 lives on in preservation. Cheers Paul
Second one of these arrived today. Saved £50.00 on the MRP. No more for now though. With what I now have between these kits and my RTR class 25 and 35, I now have a nice fleet of mid sized diesels. If anything a class 47 would be nice but that means either a JLTRT, or a DJH or a PRMRP kit. The only one to offer an early version is the DJH version and that's ouch. Maybe for later. Toto
Well, looks like these Class 24's could be going like hot cakes. I thought I'd resurrect this thread to let folks see it again. If anyone wants any specific pictures shown to give a better idea of the parts ....... shout out. cheers toto
