A visit to the Strathspey Railway on Friday 22nd June 2018 saw some good action, with the line's resident Class 117 DMU SC51367 working the three-train service. I took a ride on the 13:45 PM service to Broomhill via Boat of Garten, encountering BR Class 27 D5394 at Boat of Garten and Class 31 D5862 at Aviemore shed. Then there was the surprise bonus of DRS 68033 passing on the main line, with a Tesco Express going towards Perth and Edinburgh. YouTube video to follow shortly. Comments welcome as always.
Nice ride, I'll have to do that one day ! Good fish & chips shop on the main street in Aviemore, across the road from Tesco ! Cheers, Gary.
I understand that you can go round the loco shed at weekends. Did you get to see the "Caledonian Railway" loco they have there? Not sure what class it is but it looks superb in the blue paint, though I only caught a glimpse of it last year when I visited, as it was during the week. The 10 mile trip behind their "Mogul" steam loco is also worthwhile, and I think Mr and Mrs Gormo also took that trip when they visited Scotland not long back. Keith.
Brilliant video David . It is a very long time since I was there, I'd forgotten just how beautiful the area is! Pete.
Thanks Gary! Thanks Ian! Thanks Keith. The 'Caley' wasn't steaming on this day; Fridays in June sees a DMU running the timetabled service. Thanks Pete!
