The latest addition to the layout is eight new scratch built power poles (utility poles/telegraph poles)...

I used the same method as I have done previously in this thread and there is a link to this back in post #596, back one page...

    Cheers, Gary.

    G`day Folks,
I had the pleasure this afternoon of visiting Gary for a running session on his Miami based American layout.
I don`t normally get the opportunity to run DCC as my own layout is all DC Analogue.
DCC in my opinion is a great way to go, especially if you only have space for a small layout, or indeed if you are down sizing, which may be a future scenario for me.
I was shunting under Gary`s direction, as I am a DCC newbie, and it must have taken me 40 to 45 minutes to deliver tankers and box cars and sort them out and place them in the correct locations........why you say ????....well it was all done at scale speeds which has a very realistic feel to it.
The Rapido loco we were running runs superbly, sounds great and the detail is first class.
Gary has enhanced the loco with weathering and most of his wagons are weathered to the same high standard.
All we needed to top it off was the smell of diesel exhaust.......:avatar:
The detail on the layout is first class, as we`ve come to expect from Gary`s projects.
A tiny example below and I would ask you to look very carefully at what we have here, bearing in mind this is HO scale.
Rusted corrugated iron fence, broken barbed wire, dumpster with paint loss and rust, cardboard rubbish and a garbage bag, even an outside dunny in the background......it just goes on and on.

The loco we were running with a staged cameo of Modelu figures.

    DSC02351.JPG

And two one to one scale blokes in the garage

    DSC02352.JPG

And a very short video showing some running over approximately 2/3rds of the layout

    Thanks for your hospitality Gary..

Thank you for sharing your visit Gormo. You are welcome back any time for an ops session !

I thought I'd better share some pics of Gormo, concentrating hard on the task at hand..., after all, he was the engineer, I was just the conductor ! ;)

Slow and steady wins the race !

As I don't use magnets to uncouple cars, the old bamboo skewer comes in handy, especially with Kadees ! It takes a little practice to get the hang of it !!

Not only did Gormo bring his film crew and sound crew with him, he even came bearing gifts !

    Thank you kindly Gormo !

100% Champion..., well that depends who you talk too.... :avatar::avatar:

    Cheers, Gary.

    G`day Ron,
I do take it off occasionally ........actually I started wearing it for my YouTube videos when I first started doing them 12 years ago, and decided to keep it going as a theme.
I was wearing a vest and shirt and tie at one stage, to give that train conductor look, but abandoned that and only kept the cap as the constant theme.
In Australia, outdoors, it`s a good idea to wear a hat anyway, but one with an all around brim is ideal to keep you Sun safe.

I think you are more the engineer than a conductor in all respects Gormo :worship:

So today is the only full day I can get the layout out of the garage, as I have to work on Sunday...

The garage looks bare without the layout in there. You can see one of the intermediate modules sitting on the drawers.

The lounge room is the only area I can set up the layout in it's exhibition guise and it will stay there until I'm ready to pack the layout in the van on Thursday, ready for the trip south to Goulburn.

I found out last night where I will be positioned in the arena and I have a nice open corner spot to set up in...

As I;m not sure which way I will orientate the layout, I decided to paint the backs of the drop in back scenes black. Once I set the layout up, I'll add the Platform 1 MRC stickers to the back of the boards.

Plenty more to do in the meantime..., I have lights to repair, a locomotive or two to weather as well as a few more freight cars, add a little more scenic detail and one more big test before dismantling for the trip south.... Fun times ahead in very little time..!

    Cheers, Gary.

Had a nice compliment today on Will James' post on Face Book in regards to the Goulburn Exhibition today...

"Please ensure to take much footage of Gary Ruming's layout. Am aware of a number of modellers along the Eastern Seaboard who wish they could attend _specifically_ for this layout..."

Got to thank Shaymax F. for his kind words in his reply to Will James.
