Hi all, Thanks for the advice on points etc. I think I could have as much as 15 - 20 points in the layout. I have about 8 Hornby points at present, 4 are installed at present. I shall take the advice and buy some more Bachmans to take away the risk of loose point clips. I like the idea that Gormo has seen about not using joiners, I may try it on a section or two to see how it goes as I find putting joiners in can be difficult, because I am a bit ham fisted... Cheers Eddie
Word of warning Eddie, I had nothing but problems with Bachmann points. Hornby locos just didn't like going through them without derailing. All the ones I bought have since been removed and thrown in the bin. The Bachmann points are not really electrofrog, they just have a link wire making the turnout live, whichever way the point is set. The frog is still plastic and dead electrically. If you solder dropper wires to every section of track (which is recommended for DCC) you'll never need the Hornby clips, which as Gary says and I can confirm, can cause problems. Generally I now tend to Peco electrofrog points and use a switch to change the point and the frog polarity. Where space is tight such as my fiddle yard, I've gone for Hornby points and in general have no problems. Ed
Hi Ed, Thanks for that advice. I have problems with my locos derailing at points some time, I only have Hornby locos, I bet when I check they will be Bachman points... I do have dropper wires just before the points and just after. I think I will remove the clips from one and see what happens.
Hi All, Just a quick update on some progress I have made to Tarry Mill. I have completed the landscaping around the tunnel area, and I have added a wall section to the inclines. This is made from foam insulation board, marked with a pencil into stone block effect, then textured with a small blade. I am very pleased with the result so far. I would appreciate any comments and advice you may have. Regards Eddie
I don't think you need advice Eddie. You have made a first cases job of it. Tremendous work and so realistic. More photos of the same please if you have any. a landscaping masterpiece.
Thanks guys for your encouragement. I think I amazed myself at this first attempt. I could not have done it without sites like this. You pick up lots of useful hints and tips, and why re-invent the wheel ? There are a lot of people out there with a lot more experience and imagination then myself. Thanks to you all. I have put a couple more pics on, and I will update it as I progress.Sorry about the second one. I can't rotate it.just tilt your head. Regards Eddie
