I could just use ballast but it would take an awful lot which I don't have. The card shouldn't swell too much as I will paint it first which should seal it.

Now for a trip to the local aquarium (or evil bay) and get white silica sand a little acrylic paint in the pva / water mix, will give it some base colour 10Kg for approx £19 inc p&p

Cheer's Paul, thing is I am using, used fine casting sand that I collected while at a steam rally. I'm hoping the bag full I got will do for the whole layout.

    Pete.

A future source of clean fine sand is buying a 12/5 kilo bag of children's play sand from a merchants such as Travis Perkin, for around a fiver a bag you can ballast an awful lot of track once its coloured.

yes Keith ... now that stuff is fine and probably only differs from play sand in as much as it is not sterilised.

Ok, bit more done, I have filled in the ground between the run round and siding with card and then topped off with hardboard with a section cut out for the seed and feed merchants building. The area in front and to the right of the building is going to be block paved, scribed into Das clay.

Once the glue had dried I painted the card and hardboard black then I masked off the platform and sprayed the track where I had filled in the sleepers, Rail match grime.

Once the paint has dried I may make a start on ballasting.

Thats it for now. Thanks for looking.

    Cheer's, Pete.
