Well, the plaster didn't work out as I hoped, so to try and rescue it, I sanded back the plaster that had stuck and painted a wash of plaster, black poster paint and white acrylic, that came out too dark so I bought a tester pot of light grey masonry paint. I think it looks better now.

    And with the shed.

Still plenty to do but I like it!

    Cheer's, Pete.

Hats off to you for having the courage to try something different to mimic concrete, Pete. Attempting a different method doesn't always work out the way you expect it to, but you've adapted as you've gone along, and the end result's worked out pretty well. I have a concrete yard area on my goods depot area, and I've never been entirely happy with it since I completed it, so it may well be in for a re-vamp "a la Pete" in the not too distant future.

I haven't done very much with the engine shed as I have been building the bridge for the layout but also as a comp' entry.

However at the Pontefract show today, I picked up an O scale Duncans models kit for a fire devil.
For those who haven't heard of such a thing, it is basically a coal fired heater for steam loco water cranes to prevent freezing during the winter.

Made of white metal, it will be glued together with 2 part epoxy and super glue. The only thing I will change though are the legs it stands on. Made of white metal they are very flimsy, so I will make some from brass strip (or wire) and pin them on.

    Cheer's for now. Pete.

I have found a photo of the fire devil at Thaxted loco shed, it is just behind the buffer stop in the foreground.

As I alluded to in another thread, I have had a rethink on this build. There is nothing wrong with the layout as a project however I have had to have a rethink.
If I build it as a reasonable copy of the original, even with compression of the track plan and the station area, it is going to be at least 25 feet long.
Nowt wrong with that. The problem is, where do I store it?
With that in mind I have regretfully decided to shelve it for the foreseeable future. Sorry.

I will start a new thread as I have a much more do-able plan in mind.

Thank you to everyone that have made such encouraging comments. I hope you will like the next episode.

    Cheer's, Pete.
