Sorry, another couple of dumb questions: what do you call the rivets and do you need a special tool to fit them? If so, what's it called! See, told you the questions were dumb!
Not dumb at all. I can't give you the sizes, hopefully someone else can chime in there but the rivet sizes will be commonly available ones and a rivet gun is not expensive as it can be a mechanical tool rather than electrical version. J have used them in the past but just never had to buy any. Cheers Toto
Pop rivets (also called blind rivets) are used when one side only is available to work on. This is the usual tool for pop rivetting. This was a common method of repairing aircraft surfaces damaged by combat or accident. How To Pop Rivet A rivet is a permanent mechanical fastener. ... On installation, the rivet is placed in a punched or drilled hole, and the tail is upset, or bucked (i.e., deformed), so that it expands to about 1.5 times the original shaft diameter, holding the rivet in place.
Thanks for helping out with the picture. Any info on rivet size or price of the tool ? That will easily cover the job in hand here I think. Cheers Toto
Hi Clive, The pop-rivet guns are inexpensive, don't know the actual price as I have had mine years. as for the rivets they are Outdoor use BLIND RIVETS ( open Aluminium ) Diameter 3.2mm, Grip length 6.4mm The pre drilled holes were 3.5mm dia. RALPH
What a difference the Green paint makes - there's even a better chance of selling this idea to the chief planning officer and financial controller Splendid work there gents Paul
Great move. Blends in nicely with the garden and the whole theme. That must have taken a bit time ........ and a few volunteers maybe.
Paul and Toto Thanks for the good comments, Actually done all the painting myself, Worst was having to paint it all twice A few hours work but worth it in the end, RALPH
Just a quick question, did you cold gal (Galmet or similar product) the cut channel sections where they have been bent to shape and/or drilled ?? Cheers, Gary.
Certainly is. That last shot looks really good as it winds it's way through the garden. Very well done.
Toto,Thanks again for the comments. and Gary, Every cut, all slots, drilled holes where all cold galvanised. RALPH
Today’s efforts....cut the first two sections of villaboarding and then did a painting test Original idea was to paint the boarding Brown, lay the track then add a grey or green boarder to the outside of the two lines..... Not sure........what do you guys think? Then tried painting it green.... Better ? Or are there any suggestion ? Ralph
Personally I prefer the all green but you could paint a border in darkish brown or grey or vice versa. Are the boards to be left with just the painted finish or do you intend to ballast the too? Pete.
