Just received this kit from Ellis Clark Trains, an Ivatt Class 2, which I gather a few of were used on the Southern. The kit appears complete (except for one missing buffer), and is part-built using Araldite or similar, only slight snag is there are no instructions, which I was aware of. I think (hope) that I've now sufficient knowledge to be able to complete this kit, although I won't be starting it yet as there are a few others in the queue before this one. Attached files
As can be seen, a large part of the body work and chassis are already complete, although I'll need to look at the connecting rods, as the wheels bind slightly in a couple of positions. Fun indeed! Keith. Attached files
A man of your ability Keith, will eat that kit for breakfast, I reckon you`ll have it running sweet as a nut in no time...... http://www.clickGormo
Maybe worth investing in a new motor / gearbox, as that open frame motor won't half eat the juice, if you decide to keep the old motor, a TCS T1 decoder should be able to cope with it. Do the wheels self quarter, or are they the manual type. You could try smearing a bit of tooth paste in each wheel be3aring and run it for a while, clean off well for a nice white shine - sorry, then run with brasso, each will have the effect of bedding in the bearings and reduce tight spots. Finally needs a real good clean and lubricate. Paul
Try laying the coupling rods on top of each other to check they line up with each other, you may need to ease the holes a little. Looking forward to when you make a start mate . Cheer's, Pete.
