As I'm new to brass chassis kit building, I decided I'd better get myself 'kitted up' with what seems to be the 'De Rigeur' tools for the job, so I've recently acquired a 'Hold n' Fold' for brass fret folding, and a 'GW Models' wheel press/quartering tool. As a chassis jig seems a considerable expense (in the £70/£80 region), I shall attempt to do without one, electing to do the assembly on a piece of glass to ensure flatness. We have a nest of glass topped coffee tables and my intention is to purloin one of these when SWMBO isn't looking, and use the (removable) glass top as my flat work surface.......I may not survive if I break it!!! :avatar:

I'm off on hols shortly but will be starting "Project GT3" on my return, in the meantime, here are the tools I've gathered so far.

A good choice of tools mate, anything that helps keep things square and true are worth every penny, I use a mirror tile as a flat surface for building on and I have also heard of cd's being used as they are dead flat.

Having seen Toto's 'kit building box', I had a look online and have decided to go for the 'Medium' 4mm version at £25, somewhat cheaper than the ones I'd previously seen at £70-£80. At this stage, I'm unsure if I may build more kit models (Although I do like Golden Arrow Models "Bulleid Leader" project so who knows!), so not really wanting to spend big money on a jig though having said that, I still want to do a good job of the GT3, otherwise it would be a waste of my time, money and effort.

At your level of modelling skills it would be an investment. You'd get your money's worth and satisfaction of producing more top notch stuff.

Still to glue mine together yet.

    Cheers
