and a big Platform1 welcome JimW When your ready pop back and give us a intro to Jim and his modelling interests There's lots of info and ideas plus a bit of fun as well within the forum posts Again Jim W to platform1
Thanks everyone for the Welcome. About me: I spent most of my working life in the Plastics Industry on the Injection moulding side of things, after starting out as a Technician through junior and senior roles I moved into the R&D side of things taking mould tools from design to production, before finally moving to a process managing role prior to taking early retirement. Retirement came about due to the wife suffering more from secondary progressive MS and needing more care at home, so a downsize, a new shed and the layout started. A few of you will know it from other forums where I post under the name 'aberdare' and the Layout is 'Hemyock & Tiverton Junction', it has been going on for a few years now but suffers from frequent periods of inactivity as my time is needed elsewhere. I have had a few chats with Gary by PM on another forum and been popping in here for a look ever since he told me about it and it looks a great place to be. As I have limited modelling and posting time you may find infrequent posts of my work but I will try and participate whenever I can as it is difficult to be active on more than one forum for me. It will be good to catch up with a few people who seem to have migrated here from elsewhere. As I have only picked the wife up from hospital today it may be a few days before I pop back. One last thing the layout for those that don't know is that the layout is set in 1904 North Devon. All the best Jim
Great intro Jim. I recognise the name Aberdare from before and the layout name rings a bell as well so I'll be tuning in and following your adventure. As for the posting ...... No worries, we all have other commitments and family etc that comes first. This place is very much a time filler. and we all have different amounts. The main thing is that you enjoy it when you are on. That's what it's all about. I hope your other half is feeling better after her stay in hospital. Take care and we'll catch you whenever circumstances dictate. Thanks for the intro thread. Toto
G`day Jim and , Great intro and yes I too recognize the name Aberdare so I am looking forward to your posts when you can manage to put them up.......no pressure!!! I have had a busy time this year so my posts are a bit random........doesn`t really matter because there`s no time limit on the railway build, so whenever you can is fine. I find it hard enough to keep up with one forum so I`ve let my previous one slide unfortunately. http://www.clickGormo
Great to see you here Jim and welcome aboard. As you have probably noticed already, there are a great bunch of members here with a variety of layouts. Plenty to read up on when time permits. All I can really say is, when the other members see 'Hemyock & Tiverton Junction', they too will be equally, if not more impressed, than myself ! Anyone who has not seen Jim's work, look out, you're in for a treat. Enjoy the banter and camaraderie that is P1MRC. Cheers, Gary.
Great intro Jim nice to have you aboard the Platform1 train. Sorry to hear your wife is having a rough time with the MS, keep the spirits high, I find the model trains are a great distraction when life start to catch up with you. When you have a bit of down time the forum is a friendly place to have I bit of a online banter and we even occasionally get some modelling done. Looking forward to seeing your layout when you ready
Thanks for the further welcomes and I look forward to participating from time to time and live up to the expectations that Gary has built up about my modelling abilities, I still class myself as an average one creating things from whatever I have to hand. I will look to start a thread in the New Year after I have selected a compilation of some of my favourite pictures of the work so far and try to keep it up to date from there. I've just got time for a quick look around before taking the wife out to the annual MS Xmas dinner. Jim
