Thanks for the welcome... I guess I should introduce myself.

59 year old Aussie, transplanted to Florida, in the USA (that's a huge story in itself). About 18 months ago, I decided to get back into the hobby of model railways (or model railroading as they say here), after a break of 40+ years. As a kid, I had a Marklin 3-rail OO gauge layout on an 8' x 4' board. But then I discovered girls....

I joined a local club here in NE Florida (First Coast Model Railroad Society), and I'm involved in building a large new HO layout. Meanwhile, I've been slowing building up my collection of rolling stock - as much as I would love to model NSWGR from the steam era, it's rather expensive to get that stuff here in the US. So I'm concentrating on some of the railroad lines from Upstate New York, where my wife grew up - the Erie Railroad, Delaware Lackawanna & Western, Erie-Lackawanna and New York Central. I have been kicking around some plans for a small shelf / switching layout - I guess I need to hang out in the "Plank Layout" forum; and I hope to start building something before Christmas (not sure which year though...)

I'm looking forward to bouncing my thoughts off the collected wisdom here, and seeing what others have done.

    Thanks for having me

    Ken Ray

    Hi Ken,

Great to see you have thrown yourself in. Fantastic. Nice to see some American Ho coming into the forum. We like a bit diversity here.

We 'll all look forward to seeing what plans you have in store. The planning is the most exciting part of the whole process I think. Feel free to load a few photos of your new club layout as well and by all means, feel free to circulate our forum to your members. There's room for everyone.

Take care for now and we'll catch up as your project progresses.

Again, great to have you on board

    Toto

:hismiley: Ken and a warm :welcome: from Dundee

Great to see you've come back to the hobby after a wee sabbatical, and if you can't get a fix of the NSWGR, I'm sure there's plenty of photo's and threads on here to bring back the odd wistful smile (see SMR Chris's Moonan Flats layout for a start).

A plank is a great way to start and not much stock is required to run it - an Inglenook requires 1 loco and 8 waqgons (so again a NSWGR model may have a chance).

Looking forward to seeing the ideas flow.

Once again welcome to the forum

    Paul

    G'day Ken,

Welcome aboard from Sydney. Plenty of great topics here to cast your eyes over and if you have any qustions, here is the place to ask. I like your choice of rail road to model as I don't mind the Erie/Lackawanna Rail Road, nor Reading Lines for that matter. I for one have built a few plank/shelf shunting/switching layouts, both British and US outline. Looking forward to reading more about your layout build. Enjoy the camaraderie and banter that is P1MRC.

    Cheers, Gary.

Great intro Ken, modelling the American railroad scene is popular on here as well as switching planks, I will keep an eye out to see what you are up to.

    Cheer's, Pete.
