Time passes and things progress, oh so slowly. not all bad then.
I have decided to try Kadee couplings as they look really good and I can get things to decouple without too much hands on. Well that's what it looks like. This will be slow. I must like slow.
Made my first building recently. It is quite poor but it was a learning exercise. I went onto the Budget Model Railway Youtube videos and used that as a guide to make something.
I went off piste, I used Powerpoint to draw the design, I printed brick patterns and tiles, all black and white on paper, hence the look.
I 3D printer the windows and doors, really liked them and glued it all together with 3D printed angle stays. I used off-cut laminator plastic for the glazing and actually the result is OK. Next build will be with card and, I hope, superquick papers for the outside. Not so easy to get in Spain due to postage/VAT/etc and I am not familiar with Spanish equivalents?, anyone?

Had some Logic fails and had to reprogram some of my scenes so the correct points changed and the power was in the places I wanted(needed) it. I see the attraction of DCC but don't want to spend the money and, where's the fun!

The computer running the track is actually quite good, I may be building a layout/track/control panel with switches as that would save me needing the, PC, computer running as I now tell Alexa to turn it all on or off. Mind you the PC does allow for on the fly changes.

I had another success when I built and automatic train detector that sensed the train approaching a point that I have, too often, failed to set it right after bring a train out of siding and onto the main loop when it arrived back at the siding it derailed. Now with the help of a Raspberry Pi Pico, MQTT and NodeRed, the train is seen (not by me!) and the point(s) is/are reset to straight through. Accident avoided.

One points relay has already failed and replaced, another a bit sticky, maybe I need to make that more reliable, Mostfets or the like?

    Really enjoying this so far.

    Hi Martin

Have a look at the Scalescene range of downloadable kits. You print out the sheets, where required stick the prints on to card of various thicknesses, cut out and Bob's your mothers brother. Real beauty of these is you can print as many copies as you like, and they are very easy to kit bash. You don't have to worry about making mistakes as you just print another copy of the sheet.
They even have some freebies you can download to try to see if it's for you. 3 options to choose from Coal Office/Weighbridge, Inspection Pit, Low relief Warehouse
They are available in OO & N, but there are instructions on the site to modify your printer settings to scale up or down to other scales e.g. 3mm, HO and S.
Instructions are on the page, it seems like your making a purchase, but the system needs your email address to be able to send you the download link.
Usual disclaimer, I have no affiliation with Scalescene, apart from being a very happy customer, having purchased over 40 of the kits (and yes with my own money).

I have done a thread on the Low relief Warehouse build, wart's n all - in otherwords where I screwed up.

I used the same kit as part of a kit bash (see below) using the Low Relief Warehouse kit as the loading area, parts from the Warehouse kit for the upper walls, the Goods Shed kit walls for the rail side walls and Brick paper Goods shed ends for the end walls.

The buildings towards the right hand side are again scalescene derivatives, using parts from their low relief shop fronts, Corner Shop kit, scratch built, and several low relief shop rears - details can be found in the Victoria Road thread.

    Hope this helps

    Paul

Hi Martin, like Paul I would recommend the Scalescene downloadable scratch builders brick and stone papers, once bought you can print off as many as you like, plus they are photo realistic a much better finish than Superquick papers, I know, I've still got some from years ago. The prints do need sealing though to stop them fading, where I've used them on platforms I've first used artists clear spray then when that's fully dry I spray them with car clear lacquer to stop the ballast glue smudging the finish.

    Cheers, Pete.
