Many thanks to you all for the very warm welcome to the group. it is very much appreciated. As requested in the new members page, a little bit about me.

I have been model (and real) railway enthusiast since I was a schoolboy in the UK. Bearing in mind I am now on the wrong (or right?) side of 50, that's a long time. Like most people back then, I started in OO with a simple oval of track. This developed until I took over my parents loft with an ever expanding layout. Then disaster struck, and I had to get a job. Lucky for me this was with the civil engineering depart of British Rails Western Region. Spells in various railway offices in Swindon, Cardiff and Manchester was followed by assignments in Malaysia, South Africa and now I live in Queensland, Australia.

For a while the hobby took a back seat, but after settling in Australia, I felt the need to dig the railway out again. I originally started again in OO and built a 'U' shaped layout taking over half the garage. Although the trackwork has been completed, I have still to complete the scenery side of things. I then felt an urge to try a different scale and so I built a smallish N gauge layout in the house which proved a bit more practical, however this soon started expanding with add-on boards containing a cassette type fiddle yard and then a scratch built cement works. Not content with this, my latest experiment was to build an O gauge layout. This in turn has got me interested in building rolling stock. At the moment they are just kit builds but who knows where this will lead. I am also a MERG member and dabble in railway electronics. Only the basic stuff at the moment since I am completely lost during most of the MERG discussions I attend.

Anyway, enough about me for the present, assuming anyone out there has read this far without falling asleep. As soon as I have worked out how to post images, I will upload a few of my layouts.

Once again, thanks for letting me join the group.

    Regards,

    Mike

I'm also a MERG member, as is Paul in Dundee, doubtless there are others amongst the forum members, though like you, I'm only a 'dabbler'!:giggle:

Great pics, looking forward to layout threads to go with them ;).

I've built a few MERG kits, and played a bit with Arduino's, hopefully with early retirement banging on the door I will get to further my knowledge \ skill - still to try SMD, I have the DCC handset, but need to get braver .

And like yourself I'm dabbling in O - I blame SMR Chris on here for that, but can feel the call for some OO as well.

Great to have you on board

    G'day Mikeling,

Welcome aboard from Sydney. You have two excellent looking layouts there. I'd say you like the small/micro layouts. I, like Paul (above) dabble in O gauge, OO and HO. I blame the forum for this ! ;);) Looking forward to reading more about your layouts soon. Meanwhile, kick back, read up and when ready, get posting some great pics about your layouts.

    Cheers, Gary.

Thanks for the welcome. i’d love a larger layout in O gauge so that I could do continuous running but space is an issue. I will provide details of my space saving system for my current O gauge layout in a later post.
    Regards
    Mike

I'm always impressed by the members who seem to know the RS catalogue number for just about every electrical component available. Sometimes sounds like they are talking in code! :giggle:
