Hello All Sorry for the belated response as, for some inexplicable reason, I missed this thread when it first appeared. I'm returning to railway modelling after a break of two or three decades, and in a rather different form than previously. I began with British outline 00, principally of the Caledonian Railway in LMS guise. The layout I had at the time did not work very well and is probably best forgotten. It was a branch terminus, patterned pretty much on Dave Howsam's Porthleven (featured in, I think, the July 1967 issue of the Railway Modeller) with the station building being modelled on Blairgowrie (I can't remember now what prototypes the other buildings were based on). Then I switched to modelling NSW railways in H0 but eventually did less and less until my modelling activities ceased. The birth of our first grandson (I say first as he now has a brother aged one month) prompted me to take it up again to amuse both him and myself. This time I purchased some Hornby Dublo 3 rail equipment, starting with a Bristol Castle and some WR coaches and now I have most of the Dublo 3 rail locomotives except the rare and expensive ones. I do not have a layout yet, but there is one planned. Until then I have been making do with assembling the tracks on the dining room table (by a happy coincidence Dublo large radius curves fit on the table perfectly). There will be the odd Caley loco putting in an appearance as well - once I get around to assembling the (DJH) kit, I hope to have what might be the only 00 3 rail ex HR/CR River class in captivity. Oh, and the user name? Old cars are another interest. I have owned a 1962 Wolseley 15/60 since 2004 (and before anyone says that the 15/60 was discontinued in 1961, this is an Australian built car and the 15/60 was not discontinued in Australia until March of 1962)
Excellent intro Wolseley . Nice to see a layout planned using Hornby 3 rail, I don't think we've had one on here yet? I may be wrong. These type of layouts always seem to get lots of interest at exhibitions I have been to, I think its all about nostalgia. Any way, keep us up to date please, and hopefully some photos to follow . Cheer's, Pete.
jakesdad13 wrote: Most of my locos look as they did when they left the Meccano factory, but here's a couple that have been somewhat modified. The first is one I probably wouldn't even have thought of doing if it weren't for my grandson. It started off as a rather playworn N2 (I'll have to get around to fixing that damaged front coupling). The second is a replica of a Dublo Canadian Pacific, which started out as an also rather playworn Duchess of Montrose.
Being Scottish and resident in Australia, I couldn't help noticing that there are rather more Australian and Scottish members than I would have expected.
