So finally I have a little bit time to write down what I want to do:
The idea:I'm an absolute Christmas-fan and therefore after years and years I want to have my own little Winterwonderland.
    What do I use:
    • I will use a Fleischmann Locomotive with some waggons[/*]
    • I already bought some house and already assembled them(couldn't wait)[/*]
    • I will use Fleishmann tracks and I have DCC Mouse from Fleischmann which I should be able to control locs and turnouts.[/*]
    I attached my layout:
    • it will be a 160cm x 60cm [/*]
    • I know not the biggest one but enough for me as I will only use it for Christmas time ...Mid November - Mid January.[/*]
Do I need help? OH yes!!!
It has to be a light construction.I have now idea how to connect turnouts and lights for the houses.
I will start somewhere after August, at the moment I no time unfortunately. I'm a competing Drum Major and the season just started :) However it could be I start earlier, depending if I have enough time.
    ThanksMichael

    Hi Micheal

I have seen some impressive winter scenes and some smaller than your proposed layout.

Have you considered using 50mm thick foam insulation board.

    http://www.diy.com/search/results/?question=insulation+board

You could frame the board with either 3mm MDF or Hardboard.

I am not familiar with the Fleishmann points and control system, but if you post up the details I'm sure we can work it out.

To control the lights and points via dcc you will need accessory decoders, various makes are available ready made or in kit form. I use MERG accessory decoders (with a built in Capacitor Discharge Unit) to operate my Seep point motors. For my lights and other accessories (including a traverser) I use home made arduino based dcc accessory decoders.

As you get to each stage let us know and we can all have a go at helping / advise / confuse take your pick

    Good luck with the build

    Paul

Drum major, that sounds exciting. I don't suppose you will be playing in the Edinburgh Military tattoo by any chance ?

Get some photos up of you in your uniform and drum.

I am looking forward to your layout start to take shape

Hi Micheal, this sounds like an unusual project, are you building it as a home only layout or do you intend to exhibit it, any way whichever, it will be an interesting build, good luck.

    Pete.

    Hi all,
3mm MDF or Hardboard sounds like a good plan. ... I took a note of that.
As soon I start I will upload pictures .. promise! No I'm not at the Edinburgh Tattoo, not yet :)Here a video from what I'm doing as Drum Major: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHvs53Otipw
It will be a home build only. I think :)

Great stuff Michael. I sometimes go down to North Berwick and visit the pipe band competitions.

    Always a great day out.
