Welcome this is the beginnings of my layout that I hope to getpast the plywood plains. it will is based on wottamondara in central west of nsw on the Blayney to demondrille line. thank you Gary Ruming for the phone call tutorial on making this thread haha
Good one Robbie,... That`s very neat joinery and will pay dividends with reliability in the long run. Is this an exhibition layout or home based.? Gormo
Thanks Gary and gormo. It’s probably a bit of overkill but it is an exhibition layout that will also be my home layout. The track plan is as true as I could do in my available space. Far left is the platform road, middle is the main and far right is the goods road. It will have a silo at the far end, wool loading bank, goods shed with hand crank crane, closest spur track will have a A frame style crane that will go across the track and a dirt access road. I will be running tortoise switch motors through a control panel which I still have to put together,
Coming along a treat mate. Nice CPH rail motor... Now I won't say you were pressured into buying that..., will I ?? You got any pics of the prototype your modelling ? Cheers, Gary.
Thank you Gary. There may have been a little bit of peer pressure buying that CPH. But it did look good on its maiden voyage in Miami thank you Andrew These are the only photos I have. I am lucky I only live 10 minutes away. The platform is still there as well as the silos and crane base. The rest is gone but I am going to do the best I can with what I can
How good did the station look back in 1963 with the pot plants ! I like the lamp at the end of the platform, a nice touch. Cheers, Gary.
Hi Robbie, Good to see another Layout on the build..... What dimensions will the Layout be? Make sure you keep us updated. Cheers, Geoff.
Sorry for the late reply the scenic section is just under 14 inches deep and 8 feet long. The overal dimensions are 4.5 feet wide and 11 feet long.
Been a while between posts. Work and general life has been quite busy lately. But last weekend I made the trip to Illawarra model railway club for the NMRA division 7 monthly meet up. I spent the rest of the weekend with Gary Ruming scratch building this NSWGR A3 station data sheets and the few prototype photos that I have. And what can I say Gary is an absolute wealth of knowledge. Can definitely see why Gary has done a talk at a NMRA convention. Thank you
It was a great weekend overall. The NMRA meeting was a blast and we all got to meet up with other modellers on the Saturday. I think the members of the Illawarra club may have been a little concerned as we were the last to leave ! As Robbie has stated, he came up to Sydney and stayed the night so I could assisted him with his build of the station building. It has really come up great. Two more smaller building to be scratch built then onto a unique goods shed. Cheers, Gary.
Well I can say I had a productive weekend at the bench. The small signal/staff box is complete minus the paint. And the over flow shed is mostly complete. Will have the roof finished this week. And hopefully painted this coming weekend
Looking good mate. I get a feeling you'll have something to post after this coming weekend... Cheers, Gary.
Well it’s a couple of days late. But on the weekend Gary Ruming made the drive from Sydney to cowra to assist me with the installation of the control-it pcb tie replacements at the joins of my modules, track painting, painting of 2 buildings, retaining wall and start the basic landforms.. we also managed to get a couple hours at Wattamondara to get a few more detailed photos and measurements for future scratchbuild projects. I know I’ve said before and I’ll say it again. Gary is an absolute wealth of knowledge and I truly he appreciate his assistance and guidance on the layout.
Thanks for the shout out Robbie. It was a great weekend and it was also good to see that everything we talked about doing, actually got done ! There was one point where it looked like nothing had been completed and this was after the installation of the Control-it pcb sleepers and then the task of adding the missing sleepers where flex track met points etc. A quick tutorial on using the airbrush and Robbie was on his way, painting the sleepers and rail. Overall we had a great weekend of modelling, laughs, a few drinks and good food at the pub and over the weekend it was great to watch the layout evolve. Cheers, Gary.
