You're getting brave even thinking of putting a hole in the building - roof or wall. Now the garden is big enough to get a ground source heat pump in ........... afterall you've got plenty of time to dig the garden up and lay the pipes now you're a man of leisure I think you're gonna have to fit some form of heating for Lis, after all the sound of chattering teeth can be awfy distracting, especially when there yours as youve been swapped ends for the winter Paul
With a rare break of three weeks from my current house renovation project... who said retirement was a blast a full on push forward to completion with my studio workshop refit was called for. So being Yorkshire indoctrinated to question the price of things I opted to recycle the old store shelf timber and make the long cupboard which will store all the modelling stuff and kits (built ones of course) ... Toto please note my stash aint as big as your stash even if me new cupboard is . Anyway the walls are now painted in a very cool pale Velum off white type of shade and soon the woodwork will go into a nice shade of Drab Olive Green... how very lovely is that for a nice BR early 1960;s pre Corporate Image look . Seriously once all this is complete then I can refocus of making models again... unless I end up with another house to make over.
From the other end view... still have the cupboard base frames to fit yet then four pairs of compartment doors to make.
Mine too, short arms and deep pockets allegedly! Don't forget the Yorkshiremans motto, "Eat all, sup all, pay nowt, and if ever tha does owt for nowt, allus do it for thisen!" Keith. (No offence intended to any Yorkshiremen, either genuine or adopted).
I thought the pile of dust was marking out your work space the rest is Lis's I will be a very nice working environtment - eventually when you get time Paul
Er well if Lis wants that much space she can finish off building the 9F and then make a start on an 8F and a Finney 7 Pricess Coronation not to mention the Leek signal box kit which Andy kindly sent me a short while back.
Moving forward from Tuesday's effort and the cupboard framework is now complete with base shelf and top fitted, today was spent cutting all the pieces for the four pairs of doors and in a true to form style timber didn't cost me owt as it was all recycled from other shelving I'd previously made. Tomorrow I'll put the door units together and get them planed and fitted... actually I purchased 8 paires of Japan Black Tee hinges from Travis Perkings this morning at the truely exorbitant cost of £1.98 + VAT a pair... special trade discount for me of course but still my wallet is hurting. The eagle eyed will notice the shield shape cast iron badge with a 5 on it, its an NSR milepost which I recovered from Ipstones in the 1970's when BR were replacing mileposts along the branches with concrete ones... I think the 1/4 diamond post came from Endon.
Looking fine Paul ... ? ... er ... ref the badge with the 5 on it ... not sure what the statute of limitations is on nicking kit from BR but I won't tell em!
Cheers Ian... look at it this way re the 5 milepost sign, at the time when I worked for British Rail all those years ago it was noted just how quickly the small item heritage infrastructure was disappearing from the scene so if I hadn't saved this item then it would only have ended up in a scrap trolley or in someone elses collection I knew a chap who worked on 150 P.Way Gang at Leek Brook and he found one of the original NSR McKenzie & Holland wooden signal posts at the base of the batter embankment where the Cauldon line meets the junction of the Churnet Line, it was even complete with cast fittings and the spike finial. With the help of the gang and the mustard van he got the signal delivered to his house in Leek whereupon he promptly put a chain saw through it and sold the offcuts as firewood... that was in 1978.
Today's workshop progress... four pairs of doors are assembled and fitted now, that's the heavy work out of the way. I put a coat of wood primer last thing this evening so with luck it will be dry enough tomorrow to apply the first coat of satinwood colour.
Yes Andy it is Oh dear and you know of this man too as he once tried to join our Leek Group. I did ask him to let NSRC have the oportunity to have this signal but in his usual manner he refused... very sad and another lost opertunity.
