Looking really good there, Keith. I keep thinking I should do the lighting on my Hornby/Lima hybrid class 73s. I did fit LEDs to one end only of my hybrid class 59 (Lima body, Hornby chassis). That was successful but with all the insulation I put on the LED legs, it is a bit messy/ugly. I intend redoing that just to tidy the installation up a bit.
For thin heat sink or sleeving try Maplin's. They seem to go into all these sort of project fittings. Google them on line and go through there catalogue. There is a lot of it and other nice goodies for railway use if you think outside the box.
Thanks Bittern, I did try them ,But their heat shrink was a bit big . maybe it was just what the branch had in at that time . Radio spares used to stock some , just a palaver getting there . I should try them online i suppose . Thanks again. Let you know how i get on. http://www.click
I bought quite a length of 1.5mm and 2mm dia. sleeving from eBay at a very reasonable cost. It does the job, although, unfortunately, the only colours available were a very bright red and an even brighter yellow! A dab of paint tones them down where they will show. I cannot remember who the seller was off-hand, but a search on eBay should yield a few reputable sellers.
For heat shrink sleeving, Item No. 160809668245 on Ebay, various diameters, lengths and colours. For the LED's I used in various sizes/colours, try Item No. 161954119118. I've used both these sellers on several occasions and found them quick and dependable, must add that I've no connection with either of the above other than as a satisfied customer! I find Maplins rather pricey compared to reputable Ebay sellers, and fortunately I have a long established specialist electronics shop nearby in Chesterfield (JPG Electronics who also are Ebay sellers) for the more hard to find stuff. Not sure if they have a website so worth a google. Keith.
Couple of alternatives come to mind - the cable sheath from telephone wire, a dab of super glue will hold it in place - capillary action will make it solid. Another possibility is enameled wire - check the jewelry section of craft stores, and nail varnish. Paul
If you have an active quarry near you then a visit after blasting might produce loads of thin plastic tubing that is left after firing. It has an internal diameter of about 2 - 2.5mm
