I managed to find one 8 pin decoder. I have another 5 or so 6 pin......... just my luck. anyway ....... enough to chip one of my Fowlers so here we are.
    the victim .........

there are four screws, two at the extreme ends ( not to be confused with the more obvious 6 which gives access to the running gear )

In the picture above, you can see the four holes ( from the top ) where the screws are located from underneath. You can also see the DC chip that needs to come out.

Apologies for the blurry image ......... but ...... hey presto ....... its out.

and as you can see ....... a standard Hattons decoder goes in to replace the DC chip. The instructions state that any standard 8 pin decoder will do. We'll soon find out.

and the patient is now out of theatre and in the recovery room ......... The next 24 hours are critical. :avatar:
Ill take the opportunity to add that there was a couple of bits ....... brake rods and buffer beams that are just crying out to either pop off ( can be fixed back in ) or break off ( the buffer beams or the wee beams behind them anyway ) they will glue back on. Fiddly non the less.
    However ........ job done.

    cheers

Simple enough to do, good job. Now, what about sound ??

Are you going to paint the buffer shanks red (aka Kimbo) and then some simple weathering like Kevin has done to his models ??

    Cheers, Gary.
