Cheers Dave, great ideas, I did buy a hanging basket liner but ours are made from a coconut type material and again not quite the effect I had in mind. Im going to stick this fake fur down, give it a trim with the hair cutters then spray it and detail it and see how it looks. Thanks again for the suggestions, always welcome Kim
Hi Kim, Only a suggestion on test piece, spray across top with a very light coat ( 2/3 shades lighter )maybe give the grass a bit of depth
Hmm, pink eh ?? Looking at your test piece, I'm sure you'll get the desired results your after. Steve Fay's layout Severn Tunnel East uses this same method with faux fur, and we know how well that turned out ! Cheers, Gary.
I think the Pink Teddy Bear fur really looks great, honest. I would love to do the same to my layout but just don't have time at the moment as I'm spending so much time trying to wire in Flickerfree units to my brake vans. I watched the link you sent me, it will look great once you are done.
Thanks Gary, Ralph & Steve. Speaking with Steve today, he suggested spraying with Acrylic paints and varying the colours. So out with the spray gun and a few pots of different shades, it soon became evident that this was going to take more paint than I had due to the length of the fur which just swallowed up the paint but still looked pink. PLAN B. So plan B, off to Bunnings and buy some spray cans. I purchased three shades of green and set about mixing the colours, starting with a few blobs of the darker colours and then finishing off with the lighter colours, so far so good, apart from having to vacate the room due to the paint fumes Dark "spots" of paint first...... General misting with the other two colours..... I "combed" the fur with an old hacksaw blade and sprayed about 6 inches away to allow the paint to reach the deeper parts.... building up the layers of colour........ Still a bit of the natural fur colour showing, but these will be dealt with after its all dried...... Another misting and its starting to look how imagined it....the edges will be done with dirt ballast and then some static grass to blend it all in, but this will not be done till the track-work has been weathered. So, what do you all think ? Kim
Coming on a treat Kim , blending in the colours gives it a more realistic look. If you wanted to vary the length of the fur, you could try some electric hair trimmers, you would get a more realistic look than hacking at it with scissors. But as it stands. . Cheer's, Pete.
Thank you, kind sirs , yes I have trimmed it a bit with both scissors and some blunt hair cutters, I must buy some new ones.
Thanks Toto, Pete and Chris. A bit more done today after gluing down the ballast last night. Its getting there slowly. A few missed spots of ballasting to do. Steve has sent me some of his flower collection made by "miniNatur", they look very good, so once I'm happy with this area I will add them to the scene. Cheers Steve So back to ballasting again Happy weekend modelling
That's looking great mate. The yellow flowers just lift it nicely. I have no idea what I'm going to do with all these pink ones I have here. I could send them over if you like? No?
Looking good Kim, and as Steve said the yellow makes a nice difference,as for the pink, you had enough to start with
What a fantastic idea , when I saw Pink fur - I thought - well you know ??? but now it is done it looks great - even when you were doing it - I could not see the end result // scene of the week -- and well deserved regards Dave
