Paul, You have got to be happy with the results from the 3D printer. I'm sure your mind is running flat out with ideas to try printing up
Spot on Chris, it's my 3D software skills holding me back rather than my imagination, but I've just done a quick calculation the printer cost me approx £240 inc p&p and came with a kilo of PLA filament, which I am still using. So far within the last week I have made a full set of insulators / frame spacers for the V2 - no longer available from Bachmann or Peters Spares, OO and O gauge back to back gauges and 27 chimney pots. I have made a few other bits for the house, so I reckon I've recovered approx a quarter of its cost already, and by the time I've done all the chimneys for Viccy Rd, I reckon I will saved half the cost of the printer on them alone. I've started sketching idea's for the Gas works tippler, but thats another story With any luck I'll get the soot staining done on these pots and get them fixed in place this evening. Think I need to put the heating back on - after waking up to a snow covered car this morning - summer must be here, snow, hail, gale force winds and sunshine in 30 mins, yep must be summer Paul
Get the tippler done and it's earned its keep wh that alone I reckon. However, a few more smaller projects first to get your hand in with the software. Toto
Hi Brian, thanks, the next batch I'll try thinning the walls down on the top, and also try some smaller conical ones. Paul
And now the chimneys are in place Just got to leep an eye out for Mary Poppins and Bert - not a challenge there Ian Paul
That`s the way Paul, They look so much better than the roll your won versions that come with kits. http://www.clickGormo
Cheers guys More Pots today Test print being produced, but I think work needs done on the top rim. Paul
28 mins and 16 pots are printed I like these ones, I thin I'll try printing these at the slow speed to see if the surface improoves greatly..... Paul
As Pete said "a bit of paint makes a big difference" Slow print finished - 35 mins, extruder speed of 30 vs 90, Paul
Just made a base or cap for the chineys, and glued them in place I think the printer is going to be busy Aw well chores beckon ...... Paul
They look really good Paul, Is it worth pushing for the finer finish when most of the time they will be viewed using the three foot rule. They have painted up really well and have a rustic look to them which seems to be in character with the buildings. http://www.clickGormo
Big Chimney day today My chimney stacks are made from layers of card or foam board wrapped in brick paper, which all seem to come to approx 9 mm thick. So I printed off bases to suit the stacks, with a recess to fit over the stack, and given a thin coat of Matt Grey (well diluted Humbrol Acrylic No. 1) These were stuck in place with PVA, and the chimneys added - again stuck in place with PVA And a slightly more fancy one for the Bank Just painting 60 odd small pots, by the end of this I will be potty ..... Paul
G`day Paul, You`re the king of the chimney pots.!!! How would you go slipping your chimney pots onto a bit of wire or a bamboo skewer. I imagine you would get at least twenty onto a skewer.????........Then airbrush the lot.....or even a spray can may work.???? It may make the painting a little easier.??? http://www.clickGormo
