G`day Richard, Those tarps look real......a very nice job of creating something special there... Gormo
But it all came from your suggestion, Gormo, of thinking outside the square on my fire hoses. Cheers and happy modelling Richard
Well it`s one thing to suggest it Richard, But the art is in the doing as you have shown us.... Gormo
Hi folks Project Update # 20 Well with all of this isolation and like most, I have been able to tidy up a few things around the layout and Editor Jollyolly thought it about time we posted an overview of the whole layout. So here is a drone like view, using an HO scale drone of course! Cheers and happy modelling Richard
Nicely done Richard and Jollyolly, The roads and buildings are excellent Richard.....it`s just like being there.....in a helicopter.... Gormo
Hi Folks I had intended to locate the proposed school adjacent to the level crossing as I indicated in my recent video. However, I have been working on the Dargan Parish of St Michael's and it seemed to fit there better than the school. So the school has been gazumped by the Church which is now completed: I still have the headstones to complete but am wondering if a cemetary outside town would be a better location. I will ponder that question for a while. There is still plenty of room for the school and also I will need to construct some accommodation for the vicar. Cheers and happy modelling Richard
G`day Richard, Nice church............is that laser cut MDF...??? Regarding the cemetery, I think a church of that age could possibly have some early burials next to / near the church, however as the town grew it probably would have had a dedicated cemetery on the edge of town or a bit further out into the countryside. A convenient history for you if you want the best of both worlds. Gormo.....PS. a paddle pop / craft stick gives a good representation of headstone as per below
Thanks Gormo It started out as laser cut MDF but then modified as I progressed. A very well balanced solution to split between city and country. Unfortunately you now provide a new challenge....how does one model those wonderful stone walls? Cheers and happy modelling Richard
Ah huh.....well the church looks really good...... The stone walls are a piece of cake and I would suggest making them slightly thinner than what I have shown, however the process is in the video on Episode 30 of Gormo`s Shed. https://platform1mrc.com/p1mrc/index.php?threads/episode-30-stone-walls-for-oo-ho.892/ Gormo
I like the " proposed school " area as it gives the sense of an evolving layout. I wait with anticipation to see these things come about. You have created a living layout. You have given it life. Excellent. Toto
Thanks Toto and Gormo. Why on earth did I not anticipate that Gormo would have a solution for a stone fence! Cheers and happy modelling Richards
G`day Richard, I`ll put a link to a page on GCJ thread that shows my second attempt at the stone walls. These are exactly the same method but thinner and the colouring is better I feel https://platform1mrc.com/p1mrc/inde...erford-junction-part-two.6/page-61#post-38922 Gormo
At this stage all I have to say is that you were right....what a hell of a mess from the shavings! Cheers and happy modelling Richard
Hi Folks Project Update # 21... A safety Upgrade Dargan Councillors had become quite concerned at the condition of the mountain road access and the lack of any safety barrier preventing vehicles from falling onto the railway cutting. We had already lost the odd Ford Falcon or two and luckily without major injury to the occupants. These photos depict the nature of the problem: Given the historic nature of the old roadway, Council did not wish to install anything as crass as armco metal barriers. Instead it decided to consult Gormo Engineering for advice, these consultants being known in the industry for their approach to aesthetically pleasing designs. Although surprisingly more economic than armco railing and somewhat challenging to construct, their recommended dry stone wall was accepted. The preliminary work conducted on the factory shop floor proved to be quite messy and the Consultants had forewarned us of this situation. However, the end result was highly praised by locals and visitors alike and has now become a feature of the district: Dargan Council is well pleased with the final project and has decided to add Gormo Engineering to its list of approved consultants. Cheers and happy modelling Richard
.....Golly !!!!........I may get some more work.? Nicely done Richard ......sorry about the mess....but no pain no gain as I`ve said before. Could I suggest some bits of weed and or tiny clumps of bushes here and there, growing against the wall or into it or over it. It adds to the blending of the wall into the landscape. Gormo
