A question of the experts I have been trying to create a .stl file of this simple body: What is generated is this: The part I am interested is the small rectangular structure bottom left. What's happening, this same thing has happened with another project? To answer the obvious questions, I have tried to create the .stl multiple time each produces the same result and there are definitely no other bodies visible during the process, I have even closed Fusion 360 completely and reopened it before generating one of the test. Mossy
I would suggest moving it away from the main body before trying to create your STL. I have instances where I thought that they were adjacent but they actually marginally overlapped causing it to join even though it was set as a separately body. It was quite frustrating until I worked out what was happening.
Hi Rob, Certainly worth a try but ..... Moved it 50mm left, deleted existing stl and recreated it. Mossy
In that case I have no idea. The only other suggestion that I can make is take a copy and delete all the other bodies aside from the one that you need.
OK Guys, I'm trying.... Trying to follow an on line guide as to how I turn these drawings to a 3D model. I'm guessing you have done similar ? so why does my drawing appear miles behind the drawing and not on it? and I just dont get where im going from here. Help! aNDy
Hi Andy, From what you describe, the image/imported canvas is on a different plane to your sketch. When you import the drawing it should prompt you to chose a plane to import it onto (usually the front facing upright plane) When you start your sketch you need to select the same plane.
I was about to say exactly the same thing Rob. Although it's very hard to see Andy's drawing to make an exact diagnosis. Mossy
I did that. And then put the second one in at 90 degrees so they intersect to get the round bits. I’m not sure what else you guys mean? It’s a whole new world to me this is?
You don't need 2 sketches to make the lamp pole. Use a single one and draw a half section of the pole through the centre line. Then use the revolve function specifying the centre line as the axis. If you send me the sketch I will draw you an example and send it back to you. Mossy
Andy I manged to screen grab your sketch so here we go. New design Create Sketch on front side Insert canvas select front side Edit sketch and draw half profile of lower part of pole Closing the sketch gives me this. I have selected both parts of sketch. I will explain random internal vertical in a minute. Then create revolve and selecting righthand vertical as axis gives me this Alternative. If I only select part of drawing but still select righthand vertical I get this Obviously all very simplistic but it gives you the idea how to do it. Let me know if you need owt else Mossy
i think I need to learn how to get to that point first. You guys make it look simple. I know what I’m doing on 123d design, but fusion still baffles me after 3 years! (Other than importing my already done designs and painting !)
Andy, It's just a case of getting in and playing, yes some things will go wrong but that's just part of the learning curve. The first 2 or 3 wagons I designed probably went through 10 versions before I got them to a point where I was happy. I'm lucky having commercially designed software for 30+ years, I look at things slightly differently. I can see 3-4 different designers in the functions I use, the differences are minimal but they are there. Once I have a handle on which variation is being used I can quickly grasp the various options available for a function. Some things stump me, like the flutings on your lamp post - I haven't a clue how to tackle them, equally 3d sketching just leaves my brain fried, it's something I really need to get a handle on. Mossy
Fluting started off as something like a hexagon in the old program , copy and pasted and then spun it so you got a star effect and then somehow I indented a curve between each end surface so eventually they became ribs and the rest a curve to the next rib. something to think about on here..
I have some ideas about how to do the fluting on the taper part the bit that I have no idea on at present is the curve out towards the base. It has intrigued me enough to have a dabble with it later in the day though.
Rob, I'll be fascinated to see what you come up with but what do you think to those "rectangular but curved slots in the lower portion of the lamppost. They look like a real problem as well. Andy, Do you have a phot of the lamppost so we can get a clear view of the shapes? Mossy
I’d probably just stick a square rectangle on the face and indent it that way. No photo sadly as we can’t get any close enough.
Don’t worry about the head. It’s just the post I’m looking at. And needs to be hollow.. talk me through what you do if you get chance- I’ll see if I can then shadow what you chaps do.
