Water tank assembly this required cut n shut as the original tank was too wide for the engine shed. It still needs some more details etc but I'll do that when I see how it looks on the shed Attached files
Tank sprayed (to be weathered) windows and roof trusses fitted, decorative brickwork and roof to do before final detailing. Attached files
Really looks the part. I like the water tank. I have a few of their kits, mainly platforms and canopies but I also have the cinema kit. I'll get them posted when the time comes. Great to watch it as it progresses. Cheers Toto
Thanks Ron/Toto the buttresses have now been added along with a tool store at the rear. I've now got the roof to fit and some more details/weathering to do. I'm going to plant it on cobblestones for the exterior. Picture of the week eh mods verily chuffed (that's a railway term isn't it) Ian Attached files
Hi Ian. How do you find the scale/size of the LCCut product? I bought a med OO signal box which seemed way underscale to me - more TT than OO. Manufacturer stated it was correct according to their research and measurements of various boxes... what do you think? NB the engine is a OO 3F.....
It looks very good but difficult to comment on scale. Maybe posing a little person next to it may help. A nice kit though. Cheers Toto
Hi Mike I've not found any problems with the kits I've done but I agree with you ref how it looks, it seems way too short. Maybe mounting it on a platform might be the answer as per that freebie Metcalfe one given with a magazine some time ago. I've got a medium size box to make so will let you see how that pans out when I do it. As Toto said It will be interesting to see how it looks near a figure. Ian
Almost there just got to add finer details (ladder etc) been fun and not a drop of tinto was spilt during the making of this shed! Attached files
As a continuation to my workbench and greatly inspired by Gary I've decided to build and weather an ancient Airfix mineral wagon kit. I've built it (apart from the couplings) and sprayed it in appropriate base colours and also given it a removable real coal load and fitted Hornby replacement wheel sets. It's going to be a learning curve so this will be purely a test piece. I certainly don't expect to achieve Gary's standard so will be invoking the lesser known 6ft rule! Attached files
Hi Ian, Looking forward to more on this. I think your six foot rule is somewhere between Gary's three foot rule and my out the shed and way down the path rule. I'm sure you'll do fine. http://www.click Toto
Cheers Toto ... pssst did you notice how I covered myself by implying it was a test piece... y'know in case the modeling gremlins strike! Ian
And the contenders for weathering are... these pretty old Airfix kits which I like as the moulds (now Dapol?) are crisp. The only problem I have is that the old decals are brittle so does anyone know if you can get replacements? I just need to spray matt varnish on them to seal the decals then as quick as you can open a dozen bottles of Tinto... were off ... well I might invoke Toto's never never land rule... Attached files
One more for the weathering exercise... just 2 more to go, a meat wagon and a pressflow ... gonna need lots of tinto methinks! Attached files
Dapol meatvan the moulds are showing their age with plenty of flashing but they are 50yrs old. Just a cement wagon before weathering. Attached files
