I did wonder if the vallejo clear base coat could be used as a bulking agent to make the pre coloured medium go further

Fingers crossed I manage z return go the shed tonight. The parts should be well and truly set even though the shed is pretty chilly.

I can look at getting the parts primed at least.

    Photos of progress shall follow

    Cheers

Hallelujah, finally made the shed today and cracked on with the priming of the kit.

I have taken a few photos as always and will post them up later tonight. The air brush done its job well and I am happy with its use. This session covered the main two building sections as shown above e. There are still some smaller elements to be painted. Ie ... main doors, window frame and the main roof sections. These will all be done in different colours so more on that later..

On e the photos go up, the next task is the application of various mixed colours depicting the variations in brick colours. This will be applied by sponge. Again , moreover that as it happens.

Keep your eyes open for my pictures later.

As a coincidental change in topic, keep you eyes on our main front page main slider ad ert as there is so e very interesting ews to report " coincidental on the topic of timber kits ....... Hmmmmm :scratchchin: .... I bet that has you intrigued. :avatar:

    More to come

As promised ...... some photos ......

    the victim ....

    and again ........

    the weapons .....

    and ....

    all present and complete .....

and we start of with light layers ......

    and build on it ......

    and the final layer ......

and the last one for now ........

they look more solid of colour in reality but there maybe some variations which i am not fussy about as there are other processes to go.

Next up will be picking out individual bricks with a variety of suitable brickwork colours. Then a white tile grout wash will be applied to pick out the mortar courses. possibly a further wash of light grey after tat to dull down the clean white mortar a bit. and finally the application of chalk pastille weathering touches to try and emulate general dirt, grime and staining of the brickwork. the final coats will be locked in with a coat of satin varnish. ............. or so it goes in theory.

    wish me luck.

Now I am off to mumsies tomorrow for my birthday tea celebration with the family even though my birthday was about two weeks ago.

However, I am hoping to get the individual bricks highlighted as explained above in the morning prior to heading out.

so ..... until then ...... cheery bye.

    Looking good so far Toto,
What you will find is that at this stage you may be uncertain about what you`ve done so far.
Don`t be.....it looks good.......there will be a fundamental change once the mortar coarses go in.
You will be standing there going " Oh yeah " ....and then with the addition of chalk pastels, it will pop.!!
The grime will add that further dimension of reality.
So you are on the right path and Happy Birthday.......

I wouldn't worry about the tonal variations, afterall the bricks would have arrived in batches, and are a natural material so the colour will vary. That and you are away to paint them again and add mortar.

Ahhhh ..... there's an idea. :avatar:

Been into the shed today and started applying some individual brick tones ..... browns, sandy stuff, toned down reds ...... allsorts .... yes ..... liquorice. :avatar:

My pastelle chalks arrived today as well but it's not time for them just yet.

I'll bung some photos up later. I have a date at mumsies for birthday dinner. My I T table is up there already as we needed a small table to cater for the extra bodies. I'll set up the laptop again when I get back ....... depending on how good my beer goggles are.:avatar:

Next will be the application of my grout / polyfilla paste mortar courses before adding further pastelle / washes to weather the whole thing down a bit. More later.

    Cheers .....

A couple of photos as promised earlier.

first is a selection of brick colours to work with .....

and my mixing pallette and brushes ....

Now ... to show just how inaccurate photographs can be ..... look at the following .....

they don't look to prominent .....

and now look at these .....

    and ....

and I can assure you it looks like neither in the flesh. Anyway, the next step, grouting of mortar courses will dull down both the brick work in general and the brick colours that have been picked out.

hopefully will have the next stage posted up this afternoon.

    cheers for now.

The mortar will highlight the other brick also and make it look like the whole wall is one......at the moment your highlighted bricks are drawing attention away from the wall.

Yes, I'm confident you are correct. I watched a few videos on the subject and they all had the same nerve racking results. It's the mortar course and general overall dulling caused by applying it that tones the whole thing down and gives that ahed and dull weathered finish that we try to achieve. Then a dirtying down with the washes etc.

I still have doors, windows and the roof to do as well albeit with different finishing techniques.

    Cheers

Hit the shed for an hour earlier and applied the mortar courses.

I used a tube of poly cell polyfiller. Ready mixed filler which comes out like a paste. It worked ok but it can be a bit gritty so you have to give it a bit of a mix prior to use. Anyway .... bottom line is it worked. Filled the courses and dulled down the brick colour.

One thing I have noticed is that there is a couple of courses of headers above the upper window which should have been picked out in engineering blue brick which I did not do. This can be done though as soon as the mortar course is properly dry.

I'll get some photos up later as I have went for a beer in contemplation of a second round teams interview with a potential new Client tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

    Photos later tonight

    Cheers

May be worth giving it a coat of shellac or a resin wood knot coat. I’ve used it on card to stop them warping before adding clay and or paint.
