Ah no, ignore me. Memory fade! (But trying to think where I have seen a bridge like this?) Penrith, Keswick and Cockermouth line bridges were not like the above... I got it around my neck!
Lovely Bow String bridge that one... exact same design as the three other ones over the Dove at Norbury on the old Ashbourne line.
Even I know that bridge (only cos my mate lived in Fenton) Did there not used to be a model shop close by?
So the big pour has arrived First the preparation - the edges were sealed with masking tape, which then had the edge sealed with PVA As the pour will be at least 1Kg of resin I backed up the masking tape with a plywood strengthener The resin was mixed with the hardener 1% by weight, then poured. Several suggestions online advise pouring at height as this helps remove bubbles. Boy are the results impressive - still drying, but ....... Windows left open, and the Man cave to be abandoned for the next few hours Paul
I think I will need to order up another 1Kg of resin as I will need to add a bit more depth. I will post more pics once its dry, and I don't feel light headed after a few mins being in the room. Paul
I knew that bridge seemed familiar.. is that the one I used to pass under (slowly due to a traffic bottleneck) before they built the Stoke bypass?
Thanks guys The resin is a Polyester resin - and yes I should have moved out to the shed I've ordered up another 1Kg - (2x500g bottles) £15.99 inc p&p Paul
Lovely work Paul but if I may suggest take care pouring in thick layers as mixes can ignite because curing creates an isothermic response which under certain conditions will combust and send off highly toxic fumes. The nice thing about clear casting resin is you can add in tints and also drop in a few jagged stones for effect, this also acts as a bulking agent that makes the resin go further.
The supplied instructions carry several warnings regarding heat buildup, and the amount of Catalyst to be used. Essentially for 50g to 250g of resin with a room temp between 18-20c then 2% in ml is to be used e.g. for 50g use 1ml of catalyst. Above 250g of resin or room temp above 20c then use 1% catalyst. As I spread the resin thinly over a large area I could have got away more catalyst, which would set quicker, but as this was my first attempt, I stuck to the instructions (Toto - instructions are the neatly folded paper normally between the packaging and the kit, which you normally discard or hand to me ) Definitely needs more resin applying, so just need to wait for the postie. If the stuff is that dangerous, I think I'd rather do without. It looks good but I have to question the risk factor. Not for me personally. Be careful please.
