Evostick Interior PVA - just smeared a thin coat onto the base board, and laid the track onto PVA, and clamed down into position with both clamps and German Pins I will wire them up once the track is set Paul
If you are gluing the track down, would it be an option to ballast the track at the same time, whilst the glue is still wet ?? Cheers, Gary.
Track laid, wired and even cleaned, just need to clean up a bit before testing - will be a DC test so the Lima 4F may get to go first Wago connectors have been used for distribution and Deans connectors to provide connection over the baseboard joins. Paul
I apologize in advance for the dodgy camera work, but the layout is blocking access to the tripod But here is the 1st run - actually the second run as the 4F did do the first run but it and the H7M Duette dont really like each other. Paul
The H&M Duette is the only DC controller I have, and to stop the loco going off like a scaled wippet I have to run it in Half wave rectification, and the lima 4F doesn't like it, that and the limited pick ups on the loco. I am planning on doing some changes on the 4F - additional Pickups on the tender and maybe a replacement pancake motor, but with the cost of fixing the chassis and the model still not being correct, I think there will be some cosmetic changes until it's replaced with a 4F or equivalent kit. Paul
Hi Ron - I'm only using the Duette, as the scenic section will not have a PCP or UTP face plate, and I need to buy another PCP as the two I have, one is on my programming track the other on Victoria Road. Paul
Visited Hobbycraft, and purchased the following Woodland scenics LK951 Rack Faces kit which contains 1 rock mould, some hydrocal plaster, plaster bandage paint and stirrer. Woodland scenics Coarse grey ballast Hobbycrafts Plaster Moulding Roll 10cm x 3M (plaster bandage). Also ordered online two further rock moulds - should pick them up from the store in a couple of days. The it'll be time to get plastered - nuts wrong type of plastered Track has been cut at the baseboard joint, and a coat of Revel's Aquacolor Rust applied by brush on to the rails / chairs. Once dry the next job is to mix up a batch of track colour Brown + white + black plus water to thin, and some flow improver to stop the paint separating out. Paul
Couple of jobs done this evening I've made a jig for using the clay and textured rolling pins 6" wide x 28.5" long, then added two strips of 15mm x 6mm pine along the length. These are secured with 3 screws per side. The screws allow the battons to be removed to allow grease proof paper to be clamped by the battons. The intention is to lay strips of Plasterboard jointing and repair tape on top of the grease proof paper, then roll out the clay to the length required using the smooth roller, producing a 6mm thick slab of clay Remove the battons, and then use the texture roller required for the final result. Next was to start producing castings from the mold I have. I did have some Polyfilla, so tried the first cast with that. Left hand casting in photo below. Next attempt used some of Hobbycrafts Plaster of Paris Right hand casting. I did add some PVA into the plaster mix, and also added some tissue paper into the casting for added strength. Hopefully the other molds will arrive soon. Paul
I like the clay mould idea. You could rattle out a fair amount of walls etc quite quickly. Ideal for large expanses of retaining walls.
The first test with the clay molding jig Apply strip of mesh - the mesh is tacky and adheres to the grease proof paper Apply clay and roll flat - on full width this was hard going, and I did add a little water Remove strips The run the texture roller over clay Again on full width this was difficult to get even pressure, however, it is rare that I will be making full width strips. I then loosely wrapped the jig in cling film to slow the drying process to help reduce curl. After a half hour or so I will score the clay the width of the segments required to form the second girder support. Paul
Curly, but fortunately not quite brittle, so managed flatten with out cracking, and weighted it down with some books - always knew there was a good reason to by a book on SR wagons I should have left the cling film on longer, to slow drying, and make it more even - the outer surface dries quicker, shrinks and causes the curling. My two other Woodland Scenic rock mold arrived today - just mixed up a double batch to fill one mould, and the normal batch just filled two parts of the other mould. Will post pics once dried. Paul
