This video responds to requests I had after the last one to video the process of creating a single terrace from some Metcalf buildings and fitting them with gutters and downpipes. There was more to it than I had imagined as you will discover, and this is part 1 with the part 2 in a couple of weeks' time.

I'm glad you liked it. part 2 is nearly finished I am pleased to say. One can have too much of gutters and downpipes, although I have another three-and-a-half blocks to go.:faint:

Worth it all in the end I'm sure Steve... I know that repetitive feeling only too well. :avatar:

For this the 50th edition I complete the work I started on fitting gutters and downpipes. I also have included a retrospective of the building of the layout over the last 33 months. Finally I seek help in how to fill a space near the station. All ideas welcome

Time to reveal the outcome of my request in the last video for ideas for a building to go in the vacant space outside the main station. I also build a gasometer kit that I was sent by N-Scenic to review. I also start work on building a garden square to go at the end fo the terraces which includes a playground kit. So get to have a first go at painting figures and start in N gauge with children, and yes they are very small and fiddly, a bit like the real thing.

I've been building the garden square to go at the end of the rows of terraced houses complete with a play park. I've also started work on my next scratch build for the layout and laying out the area in front of the station. Flying Scotsman finally arrives at Elvenhome

Another great episode there Steve :tophat: very interesting to follow the progress of Elvenhome so thanks for posting up the link. What I suspect many people don't immediately realise is the actual amount of work involved in just producing and editing a 24 min video and that's without including the planing and making time of the playground square which is the subject and essence of the film episode. Good luck with the Art Deco hotel ... that will certainly generate good interest amongst viewers and of course I look forward to following its development and build.

    Excellent videos Steve.

Take a look at some of the Bachmann buildings in the art deco range for inspiration. The art work for art deco can simply be created by laminating styrene strip and adding one or two rounded corners to the building. Generally the rounded corner would be on a corner facing an intersection. Anotehr option is to take out a 90* corner and cutting a 45* corner (face) across it. Above this is where the art deco layering could be situated, similar to what I have drawn below...

    Cheers, Gary.

    Hi Gary

Thanks very much for this. I'm getting closer to the final design and this has been very helpful in making me think about the external decoration for the building.

Building tentatively begins on the Art Deco hotel, but all is not plain sailing. A brief encounter with my wife's sewing box gives me an idea and I also show some other small scenic projects that I have completed as part of dressing the front of the station. Mallard and Seagull get to have run each pulling a rake of Gresley Coaches. What more could you possibly want?

After a break of four weeks time for the May update. I show the work to ensure the base of the hotel provides good foundation for the building and finalise the design of the hotel. Various bits of scenic work, including curing a problem that has been nagging at me for a while at Grey Havens station. Some running sessions including with a couple of locomotives which are rather bigger than N scale.

I thought it was time to test out the joys of DCC. For the running session I managed to get five locomotives running on the layout at the same time. I also show the start of the work in constructing the Hotel and talk about the Woodland Scenics Just Plug lighting system that I am going to use to light the building. Finally I demonstrate making trees from sea foam to encourage those thinking of doing so for their layout. It is very straightforward.

In this video I complete the work to build a memorial garden in which the War Memorial can stand. A lot of fun trying to get the grass right, and also my first time using rubberised horsehair to make hedging.

I have started work on building the Art Deco hotel and I show the work to create the entrance lobby, and lift lobbies on each floor. This is one of the few parts of the interior which will be visible from outside the building and I also look at how I am going to light each floor. I also take the train cam up the branch line to see how the scenic work completed around the main station looks from trackside.

This video concentrates mainly on the continued build of the art deco hotel. I also show the Woodland Scenic Just Plug system that I am using to light the interior and demonstrate the lighting of the central lift lobby section of the model.
