Installation of a decoder is straightforward, modifying the chassis to insulate the original brush holder takes most of the time. Very Important - the chassis was modified as in articles 22 and 23, failure to do so can destroy a decoder. https://platform1mrc.com/p1mrc/index.php?threads/dcc-loco-conversions-22-dublo-wrenn-brush-holder-extraction.6017/ https://platform1mrc.com/p1mrc/index.php?threads/dcc-loco-conversions-23-dublo-wrenn-brush-holder-replacement.6025/ I have two A4 locos, Silver King which was built from two scrap Dublo A4 locos plus spares many years ago, and the other a Wrenn Sir Nigel Gresley I believe bought new by my brother in the 1970s. Sir Nigel was initially in a poor state due to a mis-fitted worm gear which was worn away until it no longer meshed, this was fixed about ten years ago and like most of my Dublo/Wrenn fleet have waited 10 to 11 years to be converted for DCC running. I did not originally intend to go DCC but in 2013 I went for it and unfortunately was unable to convert most of my Dublo and Wrenn until recently, but I digress, back to converting these A4 locos. At first glance the chassis look identical but in fact are quite different at the rear, notably the motor drives the rear axle from different sides. Both were happy to use the RoS-6D decoder For details of connecting to this decoder please refer to Solution 1 of article 26, Ref 28.1, mounting varies as below. Hornby Dublo - Silver King Decoder fixed directly to the chassis. Wrenn - Sir Nigel Gresley Decoder required an off cut of laser board to fill the well in the chassis to which it is attached. Summary A pleasant change to have two straightforward conversions.
