    Thanks very much Phil.
It wouldn`t be possible without all the nice brick papers and slate papers etc. that we have available from our friends at Scalescenes.
Gary gave me some of his stock, which helped enormously with the interiors and of course there are some free downloads from the internet.
All in all, a compilation of parts and some scratch building to go with it.
As I`ve mentioned before,it`s not difficult when you break things down into their individual elements, and I think this is true for any form of scratch building.

    Thanks Brian,
Most of the adverts came from Scale Model Scenery. They were a free download from an engine shed kit in BRM some years ago.
The lighting always looks different in photographs, not a true indication of what it really looks like to the naked eye, however pleasing nonetheless.

    G`day Folks,
Today I had a crack at the small annex that will be attached to the left hand side of Bamford Station building.
Once again Bewdley provides the inspiration for this model and it`s the little brick extension between the main building and the weather board building.
I`ve researched it as best as I can and found a very old picture of Bewdley viewed from a nearby hill, so I could gain an idea of what the internal roof of the building looks like.
But as I don`t have exact information, I`ve fudged it where necessary, so it becomes more of an impression of the building rather than an exact copy of same.
    Below is the prototype

    10234344985_ffd4f1b6af_k.jpg

So as usual we draw it up in LibreOfficeDraw......this was done last night and it`s fairly straightforward as you can see. I cut the paper images out separately and arrange them on the card so that the bare minimum of card is used.....best not to waste it ?.....I cut out windows and doors first as this is easier to do on the full sheet of card rather than on the small individual walls.

    IMG20230521112752.jpg

Then the walls were cut out.

    IMG20230521124045.jpg

Then apply brick paper and windows.......little notches are cut out from the end of the two side walls so that they can slide over the decorative brick and stone courses that skirt the building.

    IMG20230521132605.jpg

Just standing the parts up to see how it looks.....I am still using left over Metcalfe windows and a door in this case too.

    IMG20230521135853.jpg

And the rear side wall.......you can see here how I`ve taken the brick paper up and over the walls to the interior. This is because the internal roof sits down below the wall tops and also it sits on an angle.

    IMG20230521142138.jpg

Gluing it all together........prior to gluing I`ve added some images of a storage shed over the backs of the windows......I`ve delegated this part of the station building to storage which can be anything.

    IMG20230521152205.jpg

Then added lintels and sills..........you can see the angled roof in this pic.

    IMG20230521160126.jpg

Added some detail around the top edge.......there`s still more to go......but I`ve knocked off for the day........so it can wait for another day.

    IMG20230521161409.jpg

The annex is not yet glued to the main building......I need to check a few measurements on the railway first and make sure I`m heading in the right direction.
Once all that lot is confirmed.....I will push on with the weather board building........I think that will be fairly easy.....famous last words....Ha Ha !!!!.....:faint:

    Anyway !!!!!:giggle:
Today I`ve added some trim to the annex.
Some to the top of the walls and some around the base of the walls and then added the small wall at the end of the building.
The small wall will butt up to the weatherboard building.
I contacted the good folks at Bewdley the other day, and asked what the weatherboard building is currently used for.?
They replied promptly and told me that it is the station buffet......very nice of them to get back to me so quickly, but it`s not the answer I`d expected.
    Anyway.......it doesn`t matter......it`s a " model " railway......it can be what I want it to be, so it`s a Parcels Office....

    IMG20230522141500.jpg

A view from the other side....there is actually a corrugated roof over this little narrow entrance, on the prototype, with a door at the rear and between the weatherboard building and the annex.
I`m going to leave the roof and the door out of this model.
This is the joy of modelling folks.....you can create your own little world here, and who`s to say it`s right or wrong ??.......and if the rivet counters do say it`s wrong...... well they know what they can do with their rivets and their counting......Hah !!!!........:avatar:
I should get a sign made up for my railway room door......." Rivet Counters Go Home "....actually I think I will.......

    IMG20230522141515.jpg

So the annex is now permanently fixed to the main building and I`ve started drawing up the Parcels Office weatherboard building.
As usual I`m working off photographs and taking guesses at measurements etc......I`ve adjusted it about three times now but I think I`m there and ready to start.
This is a low set building.........if you look at the height of the walls in relation to the doors in particular, I`m guessing the wall height is about 7` 6"...so that`s what it will be.
The length is a bit more tricky, so I`ve used the station benches to calculate that one......again it`s a compromise and an educated guess and I think it looks right at about 28`
Below is the current drawing.......the hatched areas will be removed.
The roof will be calculated once the walls go together.

    Parcels Office.png

My wife Julie, has given me some white card today which I think will be ideal for the weatherboard. The boards will be coloured with pastel markers and then cut out.
The edges will be coloured prior to the board being applied. Of course there will be a slight overlap on each board so it will be important to keep a good line when applying them.
Actually writing this has brought back an idea I`ve used before......I`ll print guide lines onto the drawing.....that will help enormously.
    More as it happens

Gormo, on the annex, I assume an internal gutter to get rid of rain on the sloping roof?

    G`day Folks,
Well we`re pushing ahead now with the Parcels Office.
I`ve added guidelines to the drawing so that I can keep a better line when applying the weatherboards, and now the parts have been cut out.
Prior to that I had done a couple of print outs and cut out and sat parts next to the station building to gauge if I had it right.....I didn`t .....so back to the drawing board a couple of times and adjusted the measurements to what we have now.
This is the platform side with the three windows

    IMG20230522212101.jpg

The rear of the building...two windows and two doors.

    IMG20230522212131.jpg

And roughly how it will sit next the the main building......there is still a second base plate to go under this which will raise it slightly.

    IMG20230522212352.jpg

This building has a narrow strip of timber edging on all the windows and doors rather than standard architraves and sills. The ends of the weatherboards butt up to the strips.
So I`ve coloured around the openings so we won`t see any white bleed from the card and then started applying weatherboards. Once the boards are on and trimmed, I`ll do the strips around the windows and doors.

    IMG20230523133835.jpg

Weatherboard strips ready to be applied and the other openings coloured and ready to go.

    IMG20230523163050.jpg

This is the back wall with edging strips applied........the edging strips are card coloured, cut and taken from a Tetley`s Tea box.
Household packaging can be a great resource for those of us who work with card.

    IMG20230523164608.jpg

And back tracking just a little.....Sol asked me whether I was considering doing some sort of drainage solution for the sloping roof on the annex of Bamford`s main building.
Well I was, but hadn`t worked it out until last night.......the solution was to simply add another layer of card on top of the existing roof, although cut slightly shorter. Prior to the extra roof going on, I created a lead lining ( coloured paper ) that would sit in the newly created trough and then I put the roof on.
I found a small grate in my archive of railway bits and set that in at one end.
I`ve also fitted a rectangular down pipe on the wall behind the grate, that will take the water away.

    IMG20230523102906.jpg

One last thing.......yesterday in post # 3046, I went off onto a bit of a side track, and found myself saying I would make a new sign for the railway room which would make Rivet Counters feel unwelcome at GCJ.
Well I just have to laminate it now........and here it is.....:avatar::avatar::avatar::avatar:

    IMG20230523112056.jpg

    I think it`s fairly subtle......but I`m a subtle kinda guy..........

The scratch build merry-go-round is still circulating today,
I have completed installing all the weatherboards and then gave them a peachy base colour from my markers.

    IMG20230523191024.jpg

All strips around the windows and doors have also been installed and a layer of grime / stain has been added to the boards as well, again as a base.

    IMG20230524153024.jpg

    IMG20230524153050.jpg

Then went over the base colours with a Tan acrylic ( two light coats ) brushed on......you can see a bit of light and dark variation which gives that aged look to the building

    IMG20230524164311.jpg

Then I got out my corrugated greeting cards that I found in a Vinnies ( charity shop ) and made up a rough sample to see how it takes colour and how it looks on the building.

    IMG20230524164330.jpg

It scrubs up pretty well, so this is a definite starter for the building. I will cover the building with a layer of card first and then apply the corrugated stuff over the top of that.

    IMG20230524161900.jpg

I drew up some windows last night, so that will be the next task. They will be cut out and fixed to some clear sheet, and then I think I will put the walls of the building together.
The doors will go in when the walls are up, because with a double layer in the base, I need to get the height of the doors right.

    IMG20230524164259.jpg

That begs the question........do I do any interior detail or just leave the doors closed.?......Ultimately, a door partially open or fully open with a figure coming or going in or out , is more interesting than a building with all doors closed.
I think I just answered my question.....and I suppose lighting would be appropriate too.....:scratchchin:

Making great progress Gormo. You've inspired me to build my Frankston station building. Got it planned, cut out the front of the building, only too find out I've run out of 2mm screen board. Have too get my son to get me some more. In the mean time off to Bunnings to get some balsa. :hammer:

    Thanks Phil,
That`s great that you are having a crack at Frankston........frustrating to run out of board but it`s not for long.
I look forward to seeing it develop.......from what little I`ve seen of the building, it should be interesting.
    Good luck with it...

    G`day Folks,
I kept motoring on today.....it helps to be working inside in the warmth.
The window frames were cut out and glued to some clear plastic I had saved from and el cheapo photo frame.
Then moved onto gluing the walls to the base........I had to make a minor adjustment to the base to get a flush fit on one side, however no big deal to shave a tad off.

    IMG20230525101121.jpg

Ensuring a flush fit on the corner by encouraging the parts to hold together under weight whilst the glue sets.

    IMG20230525125016.jpg

All that weight and gluing resulted in an open box model.........the pink ends of the end walls will receive corner cover strips as per the prototype

    IMG20230525134051.jpg

Doing a visual comparison to convince myself I`m on the right track

    IMG20230525134144.jpg

Cover strips added........once again we are using the packaging from our friends at Tetley`s Tea as modelling supplies........:tophat:
I have also added some wall vents as per prototype.......they are just a downloaded image, printed and cut out and stuck on in place.

    IMG20230525155725.jpg

Doors have been added too......the open door is not yet fitted, but simply standing in place for the pic and an assessment on how to proceed.
Obviously I will need to put in a timber floor.
I think, in this case I will not light the building, however some internal scenes will most likely be stuck behind the windows to imply an interior.

    IMG20230525162517.jpg

Well it`s quitin time here at Gormo`s joint.......so more as it happens folks.

    G`day Folks,
Well we`re quickly approaching completion of the model of the Parcels Office for Bamford.
I have decided to light one quarter of the building, and as a consequence of that, I`ve detailed the interior to suggest an inquiry / reception area with a desk and cupboards , clock on the wall and schedules or charts up on the walls etc.
In the process of preparing for lighting, I`ve also put some internal scenes behind the windows that will not be lit......they show boxes stacked up and sacks, and one on the rear of the building, shows a guy reaching up to a high shelf. These scenes will be difficult to see, but they will look better than a bare room .

    IMG20230526101631.jpg

Then moved onto preparing the name board that will be on the front wall of the building. The base name plate is cut out and glued to thin card, and once that`s dry, I give the face of the sign a coat of PVA with a brush, and then put the frame on top of that around the edge. The PVA seals the print and at the same time gives it a low sheen.

    IMG20230526130054.jpg

    IMG20230526131247.jpg

A single 5mm Amber LED was then set up with dropping resistor and wires and Super glued to the back of and just a little above the reception area wall.
You would have to get down on your knees in the praying position to even attempt to see the LED on the layout.

    IMG20230526135056.jpg

The sub roof was then added......I don`t think the corrugated card is strong enough to go it alone over this distance.

    IMG20230526144601.jpg

Then coloured the corrugated card and fitted it to the sub roof with a slight overhang. Guttering will tuck in neatly under the overhang, and at the ends, barge boards will slot in under the roof as well.

    IMG20230526162748.jpg

    All good with the lighting

    IMG20230526164124.jpg

And this is how it will sit next to the main building

    IMG20230526163645.jpg

Left on the to do list is guttering , down pipes, barge boards, signs, fire buckets.....and I think that`s it.....:scratchchin:
