Hi everyone! Time for another update on this layout. The past week has seen me working on the backscene. The curved formers for the corner have been in place from the beginning and I thought it was high time I fitted the cardboard base layer. This had to be done in 3 pieces with 600gsm card, but after painting, you can hardly see the joins. I also got to use Gormo's recommended programs for creating the backscene on the computer and printing it out. The version shown in the pics is a bit too low so I have extended it with more trees so it will sit about 5cm higher when I finally print it out (I'll probably leave the low one up while I work on the landforms along the back so I don't damage the good one). Thanks to Gormo for his great tutorials on backscenes. Ian
That is coming along very nicely Ian. Will it be finished by mid February, by any chance ?? Cheers, Gary.

SMR CHRIS wrote: Thanks Chris. I haven't checked fit in the Yaris yet. As far as exhibitions go, it all depends on where and when, seeing as I have to fit things in around work. Ian
Of course you do know that employers check social media ........, that's why I promote the dark side, they dont ask questions in case they may look stupid - honest boss not you Paul
Good grief! I just realised it as been over a month since the last update on the layout! A few things have happened in that time that I just didn't get around to photographing until tonight. First up, I bought a couple of slate looking self adhesive floor tiles and cut them to fit around the fascia. I was originally planning automotive carpet or carpet tiles but the vinyl tiles worked out much easier to work with seeing as the profile of the fascia is a bit wavey. I've also been busy with foamcore board and gap filler making the team track yard surface. I used 3mm foamcore for the large areas then made up forms for between the rails with 2mm plastic angle. After the foamcore and the angle were glued and tacked in place, I mixed some black paint into some ready mixed filler and 'concreted' the hardstanding area. The 3mm foamcore sits just below the top of the rail and the 2mm angle gave a good edge to screed the filler just below the railhead too. I still need to give the surface a final coat of paint but at least there will be some colour underneath if it gets scratched in the future. I have also cut and installed the level crossing - I did this part with plastic as it crosses next to a point frog and some point blades so I didn't want any stray filler to gum up the works. All the trees in the attached photos came to the princely sum of $10 from a friend in the Newcastle Model Railway Club - They all need a bit of work but they will make good background trees and cut down the number that I will have to hand make from wire etc. I hope to have the final backscene installed soon so that will make it clear what 'hero' trees and shrubs I will need to make. I hope the next update will be sooner than a month way. Ian
It's hard to believe its the same layout, the change of buildings and now ground cover have really transformed the layout. Paul
That's really progressed nicely Ian Good score with the trees Ian getting close to the orignal concept again
The layout is coming together now. Looking forward to how you treat the hard stand area, not to forget the rest of the layout. Keep the good work coming. Cheers, Gary.
Hi Everyone! Just a few pics to share today of the finished backscene. I edited and printed this as per Gormo's excellent tutorials and glued it to 1mm black card. The card is attached with double sided tape used for joining sheet vinyl. I'm really happy with the result and I'm looking forward to starting on the ground cover and modifying the trees to match the backscene. Hope you like the pics, Ian
It is amazing how a back scene can bring the whole layout together and give it a sense of something larger. Great job Ian. Cheers, Gary.
