hi Gary no there is no date on the photo. I have emailed the author for some info. I will let you know. Be seeing you Bob
Hi Bob, I do hope the signalling explanation has not dissuaded you from the subject, a complex area I know but thank you for posting up the very interesting photo of the gantry. Judging by the rolling stock and signals in use this photo was definitely taken pre grouping or possibly even WW1, the signals read as I thought with the two main lower quadrant starting signals controlling both platform lines and the others are ringed "call on" shunt signals. The strange little signal on the far left of the gantry is what is known as a sissor signal and was very common in Scotland around the beginning of the last century, this signal authorised shunting movements to take place in the wrong direction on a main running line... a very ancient practice from Victorian times, the modern semaphore equivalent would have been known as a "backing signal" or "set back" signal and in modern colour light areas a "position light" indicator is used.
No Paul its not put me off If anything its made me more determined to get it right. Be seeing you Bob
Hi all I managed to complete the main station roof canopy. Here are a few pics. 3D printed canopy roof sections Valancing fitted first coats of the gray roof paint and white for the valancing. and a couple with the new (competition thanks once again) loco. Be seeing you Bob
So while some members were enjoying them selves in Dundee I decided to have a running day on the layout. Here are some pics The engine shed manager tending his flower bed. My new present to myself. I know it never got to Kyle but its my railway ...... 4MT heavily weathered on shed There will be a coal saith next to the track were the coal wagon is. The signal is a Hornby one just for effect the rel signals will be MSE brass ones. Signal box I am still to put in the interior and lights but I think it came out quite good (3D printed). Busy day at Kyle Inverness train just arrived pulled by a Class 31 D5551 and a Class 25/3 leaving a fish box wagon to be loaded. and in the distance a Class 08 shunting open wagons to be filled with road salt from the overhead crane.
and a few more Busy road bridge The position of the cattle dock (still to be built) another view of the most beautiful Loco made Mock up of the signal gantry to get an idea of what it will look like (It will be MSE) looking to the station mouth. where the signal is there will be the water tank engine shed Temporary roof and ends as I am building the correct ones as the roof has only one pitch. Hi All so the decorating is finished . Some of my pictures are up. And the backscenes are partly up. These ID Backscenes (premium paper, self adhesive ) are brilliant . Some artwork will be needed at the far end to merge the town to the Isle of Skye in the corner. As I hope you can see I have a two track run around the bedroom this is 20 CM below where the main layout boards will be. I need a rest now. Be seeing you Bob
Hi All I am looking for some help please. I have the main layout of 3 metres end to end and 600 mm deep. This is 200 mm higher than the run around section. As in the picture. What I need to do is join the main layout to the run around. Can anybody come up with an easy way of doing this. Be seeing you Bob
High Bob, bit late in the planning schedule to ask, at this stage of the build! You could use a ramp between them, but you would need 24ft or so of track between the levels (guide), or have you seen the Nelevator? It would bridge the gap and be extra storage, but ain't cheap! The only other way I can think of is cassettes, there is a company that make them (very expensive and I can't think of the name) or make your own from electrical trunking in plastic or from 2 pieces of aluminium angle (Gormo's example).
Hi Timbersurf That's what comes with combining two different layouts. the end to end was in the loft. I moved it down to the back bedroom for comfort reasons. what sort of slope is the max for 00? be seeing you Bob
