Low Mac wagon kit

Vallejo acrylic primer ........... and .........


Life Color ....... fitted freight bauxite. One more thing that I bought from ASDA as they are so handy for taking of excess solder and little clean ups are the following .........


two packs of these as £ 0.99 per pack for a pack of 36 assorted sizes. cheap as chips but very effective. I would not be without these now.
So after the last of the soldering ....... it will be my first real visit to the paint shop.

Not roses quite yet. Once I get the brass buffers sorted and the hand rails at either end ( which will require to be re-bored as I have managed to get solder in them ) Then I may smell a little perfume.

Hi Gary,

It should be ok to solder the brass buffers I'd think. It was white metal buffers that I incinerated.

I am still awaiting their delivery yet but hope to have them by this weekend.

Yes,

I'm a lot more comfortable with that. This build has aided a big improvement in my soldering skills. Still far from perfect but a positive leap ahead none the less. Very happy with that.

After what seems like forever I gave Roxey Mouldings a call to chase up my brass buffers. It turns out PayPal had not fully processed the order. The record of purchase was there but payment had not been taken.

So, that is now sorted and we wait again. Should be here for the weekend.

Confirmation email this morning that my brass buffers are now en-route. I might disassemble the white metal fittings tonight and clean up the buffer beam in preparation for their arrival.

Might actually see this finished.

hi Keith,
unfortunately I did not go direct ...... but I will be in the future as the whole order experience was not great.
I will be needing more for various wagon kits and loco kits where whitemetal have been supplied. I'd imagine they will be at Telford so I may pay them a visit.

OK back to the Lowmac build now that I have my brass buffers ....... first of all ........ off with the dodgy white metal jobs .....


and of course ...... Cleanliness is next to godliness and all that stuff so a good clean up of the buffer beam was required to get back to a good surface.


and its gleaming. not that it will matter at the moment as I intend soldering from the inside.
I'll be back with my efforts shortly.

forgot to say, as you will notice, I took off one of the axle boxes as it was one that was damaged when previously fitting. I have a spare to fitt but I'll leave it until last to reduce the chances of more damage.

Now,
I am getting there even though I have knackered another white metal axle box. Close to disaster as I only have two spare so no more foul ups.


first set of two buffers in place soldered from behind and whilst a bit awkward ..... gives a much cleaner finish.


Not two bad ....... but .......


one is squint. It must have moved slightly whilst soldering it. I will probably go back and straighten it. For now, I have to redrill the hand bars as the holes provided are not big enough for the wire provided.

Taking too long to solder the buffers, the heat was transferring through. real PITA.
