There should be a painted version in the thread..
As this is print number 2 of 3 (and the 4th frame I’ve printed due to fails in my model) it can be painted quite quickly.

just can’t find the photo! (Post #128 shows the early version with stick in levers.. quickly dispensed with!! )

see post #155 I seem to have them
Missed some progress.. which would have been the painting of these!

Latest parts printed.. and ready to go!

Internal parts are now printed this morning and in the cleaning process..(seat, sink, desks an outside bell)
Just leaving the walk ways and window rails and telegraph pole to print and we are done.. then on to box 3!

NB.. only one is for the Leek station model, which will be the 3rd one printed.(box 2 is a kind of test run of bulk printing of all the items.)

    Very nice Andy,

I haven't had a go at a building, not really my thing but nice to watch other people building them.

Got to admit, I have always fancied recreating one of the stations on the Wensleydale line, Aysgarth or one of the other similar ones, but no diagrams, photos etc, also how would you go about recreating the textured faces on the limestone blocks? Perhaps one day.

Hmm. Now that is an interesting question and I think it’s answered in Blender - although I’ve seen it demo’s, I’ve not had a result myself.

with what you have drawn up Rob, a building would be a doddle. Just start with something simple…. Don’t ask my why I picked a signal box… must have spent over 100hrs on it and it still was wrong.. v2 took around 25hrs.:scratchchin:

maybe you need a PWay shed!:thumbs:

I’ve not as yet had any need to look into it.. infact I’m sure we discussed similar the other week? But that was planking of course.. thinking, grain could be done in the same way. I just would have to look for the YouTube file? I thought someone had posted it on here first. ?? May have been the chap from down south who has 3D freelance printed his whole layout?

Box number 2 of the leek project has drawn to a close on the printing side.
To explain this in full, the first one which was printed was a prototype and has been amended and added to since it was done some 2 years ago. This model has been a proving of the updates, testing the print orientation etc ready to run the final 3rd box off for Paul for the Leek Station model he is constructing in his newly extended workshops in deep North Yorkshire.

I will leave you with the last two photos of box2 before it all goes for a primer paint and is dispatched to its future owner, which has been the walk boards under the windows. I’m a tad jealous and proud of what I have done, as these are a better fit than my own model, due to tweaks made (the slot in the wooden upper structure was made .2mm wider than the prototype).

Photo dump of the priming in progress.. main building done. Now on to windows, doors and the smaller bits inside. This will possibly be the last photos of the box now.

Looking good Andy, mightily impressive !:thumbs::thumbs:

Just out of curiosity... What type of glue do you use to piece together 3D printed kits/models ? Is there anything available ??

I have used CA to fix my 3D printed models to the layout or where I need to glue two parts together.

    Cheers, Gary.

    hi Gary,
Yes superglue is the fav, or for some bits, dab a bit of raw resin on from the vat, stick parts together and then hit them with a UV light again to cure in situe. Sometimes repairs are also done this way.

Thanks Andy. I wasn't sure if there was something else available to do the job.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Those insulators look good Andy.
I have a few examples of the real thing from different companies if you ever need measurements.
I have LNWR, LNER, LMS and BR

The last part to try and get right on the printer was the telegraph pole.
It’s been an absolute b@stars of a part to fathom and after a number of fails, I moved on the V3B!!

but let’s go back a bit… v2 was the one you saw me paint before for my own model, which was more luck and two later ones had great issues, mainly with trying to remove the insulators and arms off the scaffold which proved rather difficult..
So, V3A was print the arms off the pole.. with the insulators still attached, but again it was a rather mixed result due to the loop between the arm and the insulators…

Yorkie suggested printing them separate.. I nearly rolled on the floor laughing at first…. But the. Thought why not? Yorkie has suggested using some nickel wire, and forming the loop - I’ve cheated for the prototype and gone for some silver florists wire that’s about .5mm wide (it works anyway).

    IMG_3079.jpeg

I printed the wooden arms on their own as the other parts are the insulators. More than enough were printed expecting fails.. Sod’s Law it didn’t happen! And they have proved quite robust despite their size.

    IMG_3089.jpeg
I made up what I will call arm number 3.. it was the first one that had all 6 insulators (arms 1 at the bottom has one central pot only and arm 2, next one up, had 3)
    IMG_3095.jpeg
Arms 1 and 3 affixed the pole.
    IMG_3096.jpeg
    arms 1,2 & 3 fitted.
These were made uncured. The wire was superglued to the arm and insulator pot and then cured with the UV as this helped grip the wire.

arm 4 has been made tonight and will finish off arms 5 and 6 tomorrow which are also 6 insulator pots per arm..
then it’s on to primer to see how it looks..

btw, Yorkie will be making his own! Hope your eye sight is good!

Following on from my own model update (the V1.1 :D) I’ve had to do some adjustments to the later model to back date it to fit my box.

I had not originally intended for the telegraph pole and like the guttering, was a post printing addition for later models.. but having done the work it seemed wrong to not feature it on my own model.

therefore i amended the part it would fit to on the later boxed to marry up to mine. IMG_3094.jpeg
now on the later box model, the angled panel and the lower support bracket are moulded in, but as mine didn’t feature them, I made them part of the pole route.

    IMG_3091.jpeg

My only problem now is that I felt the pole was too close to the lamp room/toilet so the out pole has been extended by 21mm.

this will at least give Dave and Paul the option to shorten should they so wish..
