I also made my own, but it is a lot less elegant than yours. Mine was made from an electro-static fly swatter from Aldi and a sieve. It works quite well for the price (under £5), but it has the drawback that I tend to electrocute myself every time I use it.
Hi Gary, I’ve just fitted a new ioniser in mine last night. Should it buzz when powered? I can’t recall originally if it did or was silent? or should it spark if the neg lead touches the mesh? how do I know it’s working? (Without actually sprinkling grass on to glue, which it didn’t do last time and why I’ve had to take it apart!) andy
It shouldn't buzz, but that could just be your brand of negative ion generator. I'd be wary with it sparking the negative with the positive. A 9 volt battery can discharge upwards of 12,000 volts through the ion generator. Give the applicator a go on some scrap card painted with PVA. You'll know then if it is working ! Cheers, Gary.
I'll see about giving it a test then. I was sure it should make a noise, but I could be mistaken. Mines working off a Mains plug feed (stepped down of course. Not 240V)
