rough guess 9% done in approx 20 min so approx 200 to 240 mins, four hours ish. and if it works , seven more required (4 per traverser) Paul
Time consuming but worth it to be able to make bespoke parts. I'll look forward to seeing how they turn out. Toto
Paul, I'm just curious on what the cost is to make such a piece, as in filament/plastic/ABS whatever you use..?? Cheers, Gary.
Hi Gary I'm using cheap PLA filament at the moment, 1Kg of 1.75 dia PLA filament costs between £10 and £16 (the better quality filament is approx double that cost). The bearing bracket weighs in at 31g, so the cost is between 31p and 50p for the plastic. I've not worked out how much it costs to print, but for prototyping and one offs its great. Paul
Version 2 on its way The channel on the underside was a bit rough, so I have tried chamfer to suit countersunk machine screws. Printing two of them - hopefully its ok. Probably 8 hours to go ...... Paul
Looking good Paul. I like your idea of the bit rail over the screw heads to keep them from potentially moving through time. I'll look forward to the finished item tomorrow for our group Skype at 11.00 am Cheers Toto
8hours 16mins later ......... quick mock up of the brackets Just waiting for the double drive gears for the motor, then I can assemble the drive train. Time to start the print for the second pair of brackets - nae rest for the wicked (thats the new name for the 3D printer - Wicked ) Paul
The gears arrived today .... on a slow boat from China. No excuses now, so I will need to get the whole lot assembled Paul
The excitement is building. How are the newly glued timbers coming on ? don't tell me that you left the door open over night and the cat is now become part of the traverser.
Gosh that`s looking really professional Paul... It`s going to be a talking point when it`s exhibited. http://www.clickGormo
Just a little progress - work has been getting in the way Started on the brackets for the lead screw bushing The idea is to mount the bracket in a block, that has a little play up / down and side to side, but none in the directions of travel. First part the lead screw block As usual the block was designed in 123D design, then sliced in MakerWare, slight fettling required to get a good fit, next up the mount - but not today Paul
That's how I did it on the Viccy Road traverser, but some bright spark wanted the traverser to travel beyond both edges of the board, so I have to make a bracket for the whole lot to attach to the underside of the traverser.
