Hi Chris, Hopefully they'd be impressed. maybe more so when it starts to take shape and actually look like a building rather than a pile of parts. Once I get more of the fascias done, I'll start on the supporting carcasses. Then things will start to look better. Cheers Toto
I wish my first attempts looked as good Don't forget the windows, before the enthusiasm grabs hold and you stick the front to the carcase - don't ask Paul
Looking good Tom, quite a big build by the look of it! Good luck with the windows! Cheers Ron (Still not moved!)
Well done mate looking good, just as an aside, I got my card and spray varnish yesterday so wish me luck . Pete.
Hi Pete Go for it. Luck won't come into it. Skill and determination Have fun and mind the pictures Cheers Toto
Well, the production line continues, done some more of the factory front facias for my extension part of the build. They are coming on a treat, and another, My new 4" clamps arrived through the week. strong things I'll tell you. and some of the wee ones as well. i have some ledges and stuff to get into tomorrow and I need to start pulling the fascias all together. After that I'll move onto the original warehouse sections which go to the rear of the building. Once I have a few of them made up and some basic dimensions confirmed, I'll start building the whole thing into a carcase with supports and strengtheners etc. No rest for the wicked. More tomorrow. cheers toto
Been out for some supplies this morning. Car tyres done first and then hit hobby craft. first on the list was some greyboard, and some foam board, I couldn't find a roller in Hobby craft, I was having to order one so I bought this one from B & Q, its a semi hard type. not foam but like soft plastic or rubber. next up was some alchohol pens ( lucky i'm over 18 ..... just ) and some brick type colours, and a box to keep all my crap in for when I'm on the road. and thats it. Now back to the business in hand. cheers for now. Toto
Hi Toto Careful with the dark browns (Maron) they are very dark. Stick to the warm greys to start off with, for the edges I normally use BG1, BG2 or BG4. BG6, BG8 & BG10 may be nearer your brick colours. Try them on some scrap, and let them dry out to see if thats the final effect you want - the colour / blend changes as it dries. Paul
Hi, Not a bad afternoons work done. Pritt sticks rule ok. I started bringing all the parts together,First the lower walls. Then the first ledges and the first floor itself. Then the next ledges and the second floor, and there we go. doesn't look much but there is a lot of work goes into them. Especially when you are doing at least three at a time. I still have the corners and the top coping edges etc to do but I think I'll leave the coping edges until I have decided how the roof is going to go. Pitched or flat ? I'm pausing at the moment to decide the way ahead at this stage. as its not a build as was intended " out of the box ( file ) I have to think it through caefully. I may even start on the main ( original building walls / structure as this will allow me to gauge the distance between the main building walls and the " extension " walls that have just been built. It will also allow me to start building the internal supporting frames. thats it for now. cheers toto
I've been prepping up for tomorrow, some more wall section base layers and some brisk fascias ready for working on. This is going to be a big build. what have I let myself in for .... The various brick fascia components ready to be individually sliced and diced. job done, just the windows to be cut out ready to glue to the back layer. eight more of them and probably not enough yet. There are still some bespoke shorter sections required. Above are the support sheets awaiting gluing onto card prior to the finished window sections and ledges being fixed to them. I had intended doinf a running session in the shed tomorrow ( and a track clean ) but this build is going at full tilt now and i don't want to stop whilst things are doing well so unless that changes for some reason tomorrow ........ I'll keep on building. I promise I will get around to giving my track cleaning wagon its initiation run very soon. ( apologies for now Gormo ) right, now to see what everyone else is up to. cheers for now Toto
Crikey Toto, You must have an army of midgets working secretly in the background to get through that amount of work. "Ah yes Gormo......it`s de little peeple dat are workin` for me to be sure to be sure". I`m struggling over here in Oz to stick some Quoins or Quorns ( that`s another story !!!!) onto the corner of a building and here you are, just knocked up half of Glasgow industrial area in one afternoon. There must be something in the water over there in Scotland.??? http://www.clickGormo
Just caused our flounder a wee flutter, jkust asked if its an optical illution or are the 2 sets of windows on post 55 piccy 1 shorter than the rest - they are all the same size Nice job,. now just got to stick them together Paul
That is most certainly a job for tomorrow ...... Or is that now today. Still a long way to go but I think I know where I am heading with it. I'll use the same roof idea to join the two different levels together as John has used in his low relief factory kit. ( the freebie one ) The main structure shall have a flat roof. I'll be a lot happier when the wall supporting structures go up and the building is self supporting. That'll be next weekend at the earliest though as I still have more external walls to go yet. Cheers Toto
You are flying along now and they are looking great. The ledges look very deep, like they stick out too far. I'm saying this as the writing on the bottom of the ledge is clearly visible. Could be the angle of the photograph, although on my model they only come out about 2mm from the face of the building... I trust you haven't done this... Cheers, Gary.
Hi Gary, You are correct. The writing on the underside between the ground and first floor is visible. Guess who did not double the ground floor wall thickness. The upper floors are ok. You can only really notice it when looking from the underside which won't be possible once the kit is planted on the layout. The thing is though, once you have done it on one ground floor module, you gave to carry it on throughout otherwise it would be more noticeable. I'll get away with it for this attempt ........ But I do really need to try harder ....... Cheers Toto.
