Sometimes I think plain ol' DC was a lot easier :avatar:

I'm thinking out loud now (and this could be a really stupid suggestion), but couldn't you have a separate bus for the Prodigy to set up routes and get an additional throttle for the Zephyr to run the trains?

You could always get a RR-Cirkits Locobuffer to connect the Zephyr to a laptop to if you want to use JMRI to program decoders, but if the Prodigy is doing the route setting and you are programming the decoders from the Zephyr, do you need it.

The Zephyr is 3Amps and if it's no longer doing points and signals, I would have thought it should be enough for your locos.

The beauty of both Digitrax and NCE systems is that you can start small (Zephyr or Power Cab) then expand them with no redundancy.

The Zephyr or Power Cab can both become throttles on the higher end systems.

In the case of the NCE, the Power Cab is particularly useful in being able to program sound decoders that sometimes defeat other systems (due to the Power Cab putting out slightly more power on the programming track).

While I am firmly in the NCE camp, it could well be worthwhile going for a higher end Digitrax system and using the Zephyr as part of it, thus not wasting a valuable resource you already have.
